Is there anything that you won't settle for second best when it comes to buying a product?

For example, I won't buy cheap hand or electric tools. I also won't buy cheap clothes! My wife can't buy cheaper makeup, I guess it irritates her skin and cheap earrings will infect her ears. What are some things that you won't settle on second best?

There’s certain food items I’ll gladly spend more on for brand name because you’ll get what you pay for otherwise. When I buy shoes I have the same preference. Laundry detergent as well. Candles. Hygiene products. Pretty much anything that brings me the most satisfaction at the end of the day for simply doing its job effectively gets whatever amount they want from me. But so many good brands have cut corners to gain the most profit that a lot of products are neck and neck in quality.

Mattress. I will spend $$$ for good sleeps
WizardofOz · 26-30, M
@AlchemyFox Oh, that's a good one! Beauty and brains! I've slept on cheap mattresses most of my life, really didn't think about the difference but when I met my wife, she had a double bed and her dad bought her a very expensive pillow type mattress. I could not believe the difference in the quality of sleep! I used to wake up every morning sore and just figured it was from working but it was from sleeping on a cheap piece of shit mattress! I just can't believe how expensive they are. I'd like to try your's out some time, just to see if I can tell the difference. Very good answer to this question!

@AlchemyFox that’s for sure

@AlchemyFox absolutely agree with this. I want quality and will spend the money to get it.

Clothes, mine are tailored for a perfect fit.I have 3 pairs of Jimmy Choo heeled sandals that cost £1200 pounds a pair, around $1500 U.S. dollars.Quality clothes last a long time.Perfume,my favourite is Channel No 5.Most of my makeup, not all is pretty expensive.I like L'Oréal products. Some of my makeup is not too costly such as Rimmel.
Stereo equipment.I have separate components. It sounds like the artists are in my living room giving a personnel performance.
Nails files.I only use crystal or glass files. My nails are super strong so nail files need to be top quality. They wear out fast.
WizardofOz · 26-30, M
@tallpowerhouseblonde Very good! My wife is the same way with makeup and shoes and clothing, to an extent. She's very picky about shoes, she's on her feet A LOT and always preaches to me how important it is to take care of your feet. She also has to get either gold or platinum jewelry, otherwise she breaks out! I thought she was BSing me but I saw it first had! Her ears would get infected if she put anything but gold or platinum in them. Have you ever heard of someone like that or have a similar problem?
WizardofOz · 26-30, M
Oh, my mom uses Channel #5! I do like the smell of it. That is kind of a classic perfume, isn't it? I mean, hasn't it been around forever?
tallpowerhouseblonde · 36-40, F
@WizardofOz Since 1921.I heard the formulation had an extra ingredient added by accident too.
Ontheroad · M
Same as you and I'll add shoes. Actually, I won't buy anything on the cheap. I don't go nuts and buy the expensive brand/label, etc., but I do shop for value in everything I buy.

Beer. 🤢

I'm a beer snob and I'm not ashamed.
WizardofOz · 26-30, M
@Starcrossed Another good answer! I used to drink cheap rum but a friend told me about Captain Morgan. A world of difference! The smooth taste, hangovers aren't nearly as bad, among many other things. I like a simple girl that drinks beer. There aren't too many around, most wanna drink their mixers or wine.
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
@WizardofOz wine generally gives me hangovers so I generally reserve it for only family holiday dinners. Don't get me wrong, I do love a good cider or hard seltzer, but I do like a lot of craft beer. Though I'm not into the super hoppy IPA/APAs.
WizardofOz · 26-30, M
@Starcrossed I started out drinking beer in high school but after three or four, I would throw up. There's something in it that I must be simi allergic to. When I started drinking mixers, I never had a problem.

Accommodation - I won't risk some shady shit or bed bugs

Just a note: I don't believe the price always corresponds with quality, therefore I often go for a cheaper product even if I probably shouldn't. I'd say I usually go for median.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@WizardofOz Another thing is the taste. For example, just because you buy expensive cheese, chocolate or coffee, it doesn't mean you'll be able to appreciate it if you're used to different kinds and flavours. There's a lot of talk in Europe about double quality of products made for the western and eastern market and some dude tested Coca-Cola. The western version has sucrose in it, the eastern has high fructose corn syrup which is believed to be of lower quality. Yet some people are way too used to high fructose corn syrup and don't even like the western version because it's not sweet enough for them.
WizardofOz · 26-30, M
@CrazyMusicLover I think I have heard that fructose corn syrup is actually banned in some countries. Have you heard that?
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@WizardofOz I never heard about it but I'm reading that no country banned it yet. Just that some artificial ingredients normally found in US Coca-cola are banned in Europe.

According to the FBI most shootings are within 20 within 21 feet or 7 yards 21 feet is not very far to hit somebody with a handgun or less. in gunfights, you’re basically pointed and pull the trigger. Some shots may be wild because of stress.
WizardofOz · 26-30, M
@BLP11520 That's the thing, I didn't know what he meant by "close range", he could have meant within fifty yards or something. I should ask him. What would you consider "close range"?
BLP11520 · 61-69, M
@WizardofOz right, handguns are meant for up close
I don't have to buy the most expensive product of that category (whether it's clothes, food, appliances). But I also won't settle for finding the cheapest with lower quality. I prefer to have fewer things of good quality, than to shop often and collect junk.

Like your wife, I have similar sensitivity about cosmetics or jewelry. My skin would know if it's 'fake gold'.
WizardofOz · 26-30, M
@MrBlueGuy When I was growing up, my parents would buy chuck steak or round steak. I never knew the difference until I was older and shopped on my own and would get NY strip or porterhouse on sale, just to try it. I never went back to the cheap shit.
@WizardofOz At that point I don't know what the point of even buying a steak is. Eye of round? Eye of shit. Now it's either Ribeye or Striploin.
WizardofOz · 26-30, M
@MrBlueGuy I never had luck with ribeye, it always has too much fat. I will get beef tenderloin. I grill it at 500 degrees for twenty minutes, turn the grill off and let it cool for about twenty minutes, take it out and slice it up! It's always done to perfection.
Adogslife · 61-69, M
Most things tbh. I prefer quality over quantity.

I won’t accept a second best kind of love … if I’m not good enough then go find someone else of equal sh’tty measure. Lol 😌💐😊
WizardofOz · 26-30, M
@SW-User I get it, but I did say a product you "buy", I'm sure a nice girl like you really don't need to pay for love, I guess it comes down to you finding the right person.
SW-User
I wouldn’t make love in a second hand bed

Better ?

Lol 🪇😄@WizardofOz
WizardofOz · 26-30, M
@SW-User 🤣🤣 Oh my goodness! I love it! You rock!
LordShadowfire · 100+, M
Pretty much everything that I buy, I don't go cheap. But I don't go premium, either. Mid-range is actually the best value.
Groceries, motor oil. Interestingly that $7 bottle on castrol gtx was only $0.79 30 years ago.
WizardofOz · 26-30, M
@NativePortlander1970 I'll buy some off brand groceries, milk, butter, bread......but some things, I will not skimp on, pizza, cheese, meat, even eggs!
@WizardofOz Heinz ketsup and daisy sour cream for me
WizardofOz · 26-30, M
@NativePortlander1970 Yes! Also Philly cream cheese and Kraft Mayo. I bought cheap mayo once and just about three up!
