Single guys living alone.

Do you have all those small things to help you maintain yourself and your household?
You know the things like a sewing kit for minor repairs. A small toolbox for maintenance, screwdriver, spanner, etc. Torch, spare batteries, first aid kit.
Plus some what I consider a necessity, Vacuum Cleaner, Washing Machine.
What would you add to the list?

Much yet not all of that. The owners have mentioned on setting up a washing machine. Yet that has been over a year. Vacuum cleaner I need, yet there is only a small 8x10 foot carpet around my couch area, that I put in myself.

Some small tools you mentioned, like a torch, I lost in moving here. Actually lost most of my tools and only have two toolboxes.

Additional stuff that I do have:
Cook wear and dishes I have plenty of, as well as cooking appliances.

Tools like auto diagnostic, soldering iron, multimeters and such I have.

Racks for the tools. Book cases for books I have and take that as a necessity.

@Gusman Should mention another necessity.

Rechargeable battery charger. I have two for old style batteries and small lithium batteries.

With the thousands of wind turbines around here there isn't likely to be any serious electricity problems.

@DeWayfarer True. I used to have one but where it went to?
The only battery-operated things I have now are two remote controls and the torch.
The torch has never been needed in 2 years since I replaced the batteries in Nov 2023.
Still works.

@Gusman oh you mean a flashlight. Was thinking a literal torch for brazing. That is what I lost.

Cellphones have flashlights BTW.

Here code enforcement requires batteries for smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.

My chargers can charge even 9volt batteries.

I've been 'strong and independent' for a long time. Basically all my life. Since I've been single by choice basically since 2018 that's been doubled-down on.

Your list is just a small subset of what a person needs, but what you need is also high dependent on circumstances, financial ability, and how much you want to do yourself instead of hand off to others. If I can do something myself, I do.

I've just a bought a wind-up radio and torch (flashlight) after a couple of power cuts reminded me of being secure for a while.

The other essential is a cleaner - my 'treasure' who calls in weekly and does my ironing as well.

Edited to clarify British usage
I have a decent toolbox. I guess I could cobble together a first aid kit from what I have. I dont know how to sew but I am thinking I should learn. I have everything else on the list plus a few other things like a dishwasher and a dryer.

Candles are useful

@TheDeathOCuHullainn Being single, my dishes number very few at mealtime.
A dryer in not necessary here in Perth. Half an hour on the line and everything is dry.
Not a lot of rain here.
@Gusman I cook a lot. So a dishwasher is useful for helping me stay on top of things.

I'm 75 and never been married. I have all of that. And a soft cloth to wipe away my bitter tears of regret.
Gusman · 61-69, M
@hunkalove You got through life with your sanity intact for the most part.
I suppose we all have some regrets that we learn to live with. 🙂

@Gusman I like raisins!

I have more tools than necessary for just maintenance and a small workbench. a drill and a collection of pliers, and a full set of spanners.
Gusman · 61-69, M
@StygianKohlrabi Yes, I also have a power drill with a set of drill bits.
StygianKohlrabi · 46-50, M
@Gusman I use a multimeter too mostly for my cars, but also to test alkaline batteries sometimes.
A good set of screwdrivers, pliers and some spanners 🔧

good list. i've also got a 5 lb abc extinguisher, a plunger and a t-handle / husky 4-in-1 for turning water off fast.
Gusman · 61-69, M
@tenente Very handy if needed.
No fire extinguisher for me. Never had one. Never had an internal fire.
