I wish I could purge memories. The only thing I'm trying to "purge" right now is the mess in my room. So much stuff I have to throw out, yet I don't want to.
I also have to sell my car to a salvage yard because it no longer works..it's tearing my heart apart, I love my old car. I wish I could just get a new job so I could keep it and fix it. I guess the best way to purge something would be to look away and toss it? No idea.

@SpookyHollows: My kids love to play and feed the barn cata when we go to the farm. Theyve got names for all of them. It's sad when they stop showing up, which inevitably always happens. Its a tough life for them.
Teach your siblings to clean as well! Lol

@NewKidInTown: I've had a lot of feral cats, my first two I pretty much raised myself. They always stuck around, until after New years back in 2012, they never showed up for their breakfast. Turns out a bunch of other cats from the area went missing, there were even search parties, but noone could find anything. Luckily nothing like that has happened again, and I hope it never does. My cat that ran off was mainly chased off by his little brother. Funny enough, that mean little brother hasn't chased off any other cats, and actually lets the feral kittens sleep with him. I have too many names to list, but Ash is the newest. He showed up a few weeks after my gray one passed away. He looks almost the same, since he's gray, except he's a he and has yellow eyes...he also likes to stand on two legs lol
Whenever I babysit for mom I try to get them to clean, but I almost have to yell at them to get them to do anything XD Got them to clean their room last time though. My little brother usually ends up mopping.

@SpookyHollows: If you like cats, especially feral ones, you should check out this film. I saw it just last week[media=https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lKq7UqplcL8]

Really? Lol. Then you deserve this...

I gave a house full of stuff away, some things had never been opened or used. This is from my mothers estate and part of my divorce stuff. I am the opposite of horder. I have several pieces of her jewelry and that is all I kept.

@Stereoguy: It was a lot off my mind :-)

@SBelle: one of the benefits of purging!

@NewKidInTown: exactly!

NewKidInTown · 51-55, M
I try to do the same with my clothes.
Except for that red paisley shirt...I still have hope for that one lol

Gawd, I respect this so much. I still have a pair of Cherokee platform shoes from 1977 that I only kept as proof that we once wore such things.

@bijouxbroussard: haha
..maybe the Smithsonian will take it ;)

Invite first your friends relations & such to take what they desire, then give the rest to goodwill or whoever.
Anything you haven't touched used thought of in 2 years is a start. You saved it but never used it? It goes!
Then lower the time period and do it again.

This is a very good idea.
No, a great one! Ive already considered who I will offer some of the items to. And yes, its like clothes in your closet that never leaves the hanger...sell or donate it. Ive been taking car loads of the stuff, and they are always so grateful to receive it.

Move into one small room as I did a few months ago. Still struggling to downsize. I spent part of today sorting through papers and old stuff.
NewKidInTown · 51-55, M
Tough to do with a family of four, but we are considering downsizing. We dont need all of this space, or all of this junk.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
Depends on what things are...trick question! Hard to say what I would never get rid of....I hate clutter so I guess whatever I lost interest in and no longer needed.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
Nope all good here:D
NewKidInTown · 51-55, M

*Not looking....not looking* lol

I will literally go through every time thing in a room. If I haven't thought about it in a year, I pull it. Either goodwill or trash or Craigslist depending on what it is.
Was hard the first time I ever did this. Now I look forward to it.
The only thing I don't get rid of is things I've kept from my boys childhood.

Yep, selling and giving a lot of stuff away for free ; )
Peaches · F
Have a garage sell!😉That's what I plan on doing. I would never get rid of my old photos. They could never be replaced.
NewKidInTown · 51-55, M
@Peaches: we put a lot of stuff out at the end of the walk for people to take for free. It always goes...every last thing. It always amazes us what people will take.
Peaches · F
@NewKidInTown: I KNOW! I always have a "freebie box" too.🙂👍🏼
NewKidInTown · 51-55, M
@Peaches: a fantastic way to purge :)
riverstone · F
Bag it up and put it on the curb for garbage pickup. I'm a purger, so my eyes are always targeting things.
Conversely, I'll never get rid of my house. It's too heavy.

I did leave a few things at the end of the driveway and when I got home it was all gone! I hope that stuff found a happy home :)
Aliengel · 26-30, M
finding some more valuable things than those things
NewKidInTown · 51-55, M
Maybe. But then it sounds like a constant, never ending search.
Aliengel · 26-30, M
it depends
Fav777 · 26-30, F
I love this question
NewKidInTown · 51-55, M
Haha! Why?
pearllederman · 61-69, F
maybe by giving them away
NewKidInTown · 51-55, M
Yep. Especially if it makes someone happy, right?
bijouxbroussard · F
I'm still trying to sort that out. I have photos and a few pieces of jewelry I'd keep forever.
NewKidInTown · 51-55, M
Does the jewelry have significant meaning or memories attached to them?
bijouxbroussard · F
@NewKidInTown: Yes. My wedding set (I'm a widow), a ring my mother gave me when I graduated and a claddagh that a good friend bequeathed to me. Also my confirmation medal, and I actually have a question about that.
NewKidInTown · 51-55, M
@bijouxbroussard: All good reasons to keep them. And I am sorry.

Thanks for trying. Or at least making me aware that you can't help me.😞
