What's the best way to purge yourself of the things you no longer need in your life?

And conversely, what is the one thing you would never get rid of?

I wish I could purge memories. The only thing I'm trying to "purge" right now is the mess in my room. So much stuff I have to throw out, yet I don't want to.
I also have to sell my car to a salvage yard because it no longer works..it's tearing my heart apart, I love my old car. I wish I could just get a new job so I could keep it and fix it. I guess the best way to purge something would be to look away and toss it? No idea.

Wow...purge memories. What an interesting concept! Some people have that happen to them when they dont want it to. They have no choice.
I'm in a similar situation, wanting to get rid of a lot of stuff, but wanting to keep some of it, probably more than necessary.

@NewKidInTown: There's a lot of those I'd love to forget. Whether it be family issues, or the times I've lost one of my pets. I think my dogs still bothers me the most, I knew her time was coming, so I tried to stay awake with her, but I fell asleep. I woke up and she was gone. It happened 2 years ago but it still hurts, since she was like my only friend growing up. Same here, I have to force myself to throw stuff away, otherwise I'd probably become a hoarder XD my rooms already full of crap...but to me it's good crap. I don't know what to throw out.

@SpookyHollows: But dont you think those memories, even the painful ones, help define who you are, and shape who you will become?

Yeah, Ive seen that show and it makes me cringe. A great motivator to get rid of stuff!

@NewKidInTown: I suppose in a way they do? I mean..I don't know if the painful memories help me as I get older, I still feel the same after that, like an emotional roller coaster. lol

I went into an abandoned house across the street from us to look for my feral cats..that house was sooo bad, it stunk like a skunks butthole and there was crap everywhere. I think my aunt might be a bit of a hoarder..she brings books and dvds home and leaves everything lying around grandmas house. I thought my room was bad. 😂

@SpookyHollows: I remember difficult or painful times in my life, and this might aound lile a cliché, but I feel I came out stronger for the experience. Plus they helped me to cope with other difficult times that happened later, and there will always be those in life from time to time.

At least your stuff can be contained within one room. Once you get to filling up an entire house...😨

@NewKidInTown: That makes sense, actually. After my dog passed I was never as sad about anything else (unless I was reminded of her). After she passed, one of my feral cats left, he came and laid by her until me and grandma went to get her cremated. I'd like to think that he went into the woods to have his own family, since one time when he showed up he brought a kitten with him lol.
I think about a month after that, one of my other cats had kittens. I kept the gray one and my siblings got the other 2 so mom wouldn't get rid of them. A few weeks after that I went outside to feed them, and I found my little gray kitten in the pond. It hurt a lot, but I managed to hold it back, I also had to since I had to go to work that day. And sorry for the long response o.O

Reminds me of my siblings, my room seems cleaner than this whole house. XD they leave their toys everywhere! And then bring mud into the house right after I clean the floor. Argh.

@SpookyHollows: My kids love to play and feed the barn cata when we go to the farm. Theyve got names for all of them. It's sad when they stop showing up, which inevitably always happens. Its a tough life for them.

Teach your siblings to clean as well! Lol

@NewKidInTown: I've had a lot of feral cats, my first two I pretty much raised myself. They always stuck around, until after New years back in 2012, they never showed up for their breakfast. Turns out a bunch of other cats from the area went missing, there were even search parties, but noone could find anything. Luckily nothing like that has happened again, and I hope it never does. My cat that ran off was mainly chased off by his little brother. Funny enough, that mean little brother hasn't chased off any other cats, and actually lets the feral kittens sleep with him. I have too many names to list, but Ash is the newest. He showed up a few weeks after my gray one passed away. He looks almost the same, since he's gray, except he's a he and has yellow eyes...he also likes to stand on two legs lol

Whenever I babysit for mom I try to get them to clean, but I almost have to yell at them to get them to do anything XD Got them to clean their room last time though. My little brother usually ends up mopping.

@SpookyHollows: If you like cats, especially feral ones, you should check out this film. I saw it just last week[media=https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lKq7UqplcL8]
