Dunno about Mel but I (Karen) have made the first move just once with a guy and it backfired. We've both made first moves with other women though.

My girlfriend made the first move. She's generally not decisive or demanding, so it made me feel really nice knowing she was interested and it took a lot of pressure off of the dating phase
