im an atheist who bases ones incredibly limited views on Christianity on What Jesus supposedly stood for which was to love thy neighbour as yourself. Treat others how you would want to be treated and to not judge anybody
I think you just answered your own question. You're an atheist and then you talk about what Jesus stood for when you don't even believe in him and then coach on how people should be treated and not judged by anybody. I think you just did what you told us not to do.
Nobody said Christians are perfect. We know that we are not. But we do strive to do better. But I see according to Bible prophecy that people in the last days will call good, evil and evil, good and that Christians would be persecuted even more. Whether people are Christian or not, we must strive to love each other. That goes for everybody. But I have seen just the opposite of what you have stated, as well. I see more atheist and agnostics picking on Christians like never before. So let's not point fingers at each other but try to love each other more, the way the Lord said we should. I know I mess up and I'll be the first to admit it. I'm working on myself to do better. When I say I'm wrong then I'm wrong and I do repent when I make mistakes. I am not proud of that by any means and I will be learning to do better till I go home to be with the Lord.
You have to remember that there are some people who call themselves Christians but they are faking it and that makes me sad. Those who say they are believers and then do evil to people and talk to people awful, really makes me sad. Not everyone is like this. Not every Christian is like this. So please don't call the whole bunch bad because of some. Some have accused me of thinking I'm holier than thou, but that's the last thing I am. I try to improve every day. And I have in the past, apologized to those I may have hurt, when I mess up and say things I shouldn't have. That hurts my heart terribly. But I feel like when we know better than we do better. I take responsibility for that and try to do so much better. That's not the person I want to be at all. In my heart I feel like I love everyone. I want to be that person that won't make the Lord ashamed.

@Guitarman123 what I'm saying is yes I understand that friend, but then you were doing what you told us not to do, and that is, picking on Christians.

You are passing moral judgment on Christians. Why do you think you are qualified to do so? Christians are all practitioners of the faith. You give them a failing grade. Are you a Christian, one of the practitioner of Christianity, or are you the teacher of the faith? By teacher, I don't mean a pastor. I mean Jesus Christ, the living God.

The scriptural story is not literal but a clever depiction of human nature. The trouble with you atheists is that you seize upon anything that gives you a club to vent.
To be honest I always wondered why an all loving God didn't just forgive Adam and Eve..thus avoiding billions of people suffering down the (6000) years since creation.

The guys who crucified Jesus were the establishment Jews. They did do the will of their God. However, the bright idea is part of a different theology of the apostate Jews. You are mixing two species of apples in the same basket.
It was indeed thru the venting of hate in the crucifixion of Jesus that resulted in an explosive growth of a new faith that dwarfed Judaism. Sadly, the Jews keep plodding on regardless. It seems to be their nature even today as they attempt to pound the Palestinians into the dust.
You have a wrong view of the picture. Let me turn it right side up for us to take a look at it. The Jesus character is the Messiah of apostate Judaism. There are the different characters of Jesus in Islam, Hinduism, and Catholicism. Apostate Judaism today is known as Christianity in its various forms based on the literal truths of the Christian Bible.
You are treading on a mish mash of muck.
The guys who crucified Jesus should be celebrated as heroes who did the will of God. After all, the God character came up with the bright idea that he would transform his son into a human and eventually sacrifice him to himself so that people would be forgiven their sins if they believed in Jesus.

So who did the will of God more than the guys who crucified him? It resulted in a religion that convinced billions of people over the ages that the fairytale is true. Therefore, when people pray it might be a good idea if they express goodwill and thankfullness for the peple who crucified Jesus. After all, their souls will be saved as a result of their actions.

One thing that should be of concern is that the Jesus character really loves for people to get killed for their faith in him. He won't return until a magic number of people have been killed for their faith in him. Isn't he a wonderful guy? Imagine being the magic number of victims and as soon as you die the Jesus character appears to the world's population.

The a prefix means not, it does not mean anti. An a-theist is simply not a theist. It says what the person is not, it says nothing about what they are.
an atheist which is also a believer (in anti-theism).

We "Christians," can be observed at times not being "Christ-Like," for the human condition and sin nature still exists.
It's best to learn from our mistakes or observations and work out how we could've handled things differently and more as Jesus would.

@Iwillwait that i agree with and all for the practical aspects of Christianity which is to show care and support for our fellow beings

You're going to have that in any group of people, not just believers. And yes this does have to change. We're not better than anyone else and have never claimed to be, but we do try to do better.

People can call themselves anything they like, but they'll never stop being human as long as they're alive. Humans are animals that sometimes like to hold other humans to higher standards brought by the labels people give themselves only to be disappointed. If Christianity could prevent people from being hypocrites, wouldn't that be absolutely amazing?
Adstar · 56-60, M
Christians are human beings just like all the others and each person has their weakness,, their failures to live up to the standards of Jesus is normal.. That's the reason why People Need the Atonement of the LORD Jesus to obtain forgiveness for their sins and one of those sin is not treating others as one would like to be treated on occasions..
The whole reason for the Law is detailed in scriptures is to let humans know they fall short of the standards of the Law in scripture.. To let them know they have a problem they cannot fix.. To let them know they need the solution secured for them by The LORD Jesus..
But yet people who do not understand keep whining about Christians not living up to the standards of Christ as if their failure to live up to His standards makes Christianity a failure..

@Fukfacewillie The problem is one of definitions.. When people read the word Righteous they think it means something like sinless or perfection or a person who makes no mistakes.. That is NOT the Biblical definition of word righteous..
Righteousness.. Is a person who is in the right relationship / position with God.. In the case of Christians it is about believing Jesus and trusting the Atonement that Jesus secured on the cross.. This person is right with God because their sins are justly forgiven.. Even though they are still faulty and still sin they are constantly being forgiven because they are in a Right / acceptable relationship with God..
Hypocrisy.. Hypocrisy is when a person tells others to live by THEIR standards and then fail to live by THEIR standards.. If a Christians are accurately revealing to others the standards of GOD they are NOT giving others their own standards.. So they cannot be accused of Hypocrisy when they then fail to live up to those standards because they are NOT their standards but GOD's Standards..

Matthew 7:21-27 KJV
[21] Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. [22] Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? [23] And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. [24] Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: [25] and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. [26] And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: [27] and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

Christians aren't the ones who say they're Christians
Christian means follower of Christ, and Christ himself makes it clear that to be his follower we must not only hear his words but do them

The Jesus character said that people should engage in self-mutilation to avoid sinning. I wonder why only one or two people follow that teaching?
I don't know what the Old Testament teaches but I agree with you that Jesus taught a fundamentally different way to live.
