Most of those near me have been turned into homes. Or demolished.
The Methodists lost their main church in Weymouth some ten years or more ago, by fire; only just after converting the crypt into a modern church-hall. It is still just a roofless shell but there is new hope of homes being built there, using as much as possible of its splendid Victorian facade, I believe.
Georges Meeting House, Exeter. It is converted from the non-conformist chapel that many of the city's merchants attended in the 18th-19th centuries. Wetherspoons, but really nicely done inside and a good restoration (it was abandoned for many years).
Yesss, it looked very similar to this. I didn't take many pics. (I take more videos than pics) Just this and one of what it looks like from the outside.
Wow that’s really interesting. The small white church in my grandpa’s village was closed down about 20 years ago and a man bought it to have country music shows. There was no entertainment in the area until then. Now it’s up for sale at a cheap price and could be used for a home if a little work is done on it.
There was an International company back in the 1980s which used to specialise in creating nightclubs in deconsecrated churches. I remembered the name as I started typing this - The Limelight in New York was the first.
I almost bought a small church years ago. It wasn't a huge building, but it was on a very large property in a small town, and it would have made a cool house. Lots of parking.👍 Unfortunately I was outbid at the last second.😞
When I was in London a friend of mine used to work as naked model for a rich artist living in a repurposed Church. We made 'eyes wide shut' kind of parties there, it was a very cool place.
Also when I was a Uni student or something we used to go in a ex-Church turned to club/discoteque/something in Milano. Idk if it's still open after pandemic, but it was nice.
I looked at a desanctified and secularized church in Gloucester, Massachusetts years ago that had been converted into several condos. Was nice. Outside and in was Neogothic. Too creepy for me. Didn’t buy….
