The Quran references some 40 characters who are named in The Bible.

Yes, they are all branches of Abrahamic religion. All worship a monotheistic male father-sky God. The angry, jealous, vengeful Yahweh-Jehovah-Allah.

If I were going to have a religion it would have to be a polytheistic, nature-Earth centered, nonviolent, tolerant spirtual practice. With Goddesses.

@badminton God is mot jealous, He has everything He is not jealous of humans

Exodus 20.5, "You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me."

Nahum 1:2 "The Lord is a jealous and avenging God; the Lord is avenging and wrathful; the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries and keeps wrath for his enemies."
Koran 47:4 and 191:2 talks about beheading infidels (Believers). Never compare Christianity with Islamic beliefs. And another thing true Christian churches never do, is kick people out of their Church because they're different.
@jackieash Quoting memes? I quoted scripture straight from the Islamic Quran. Talk about hate and fear, I have never seen such hate and fear written in those scriptures I quoted straight from the Quran.

Jesus came to set the captives free. Free from what? The condemnation that sin placed on mankind. God has told us through His prophets that we are free to choose between good and evil. We may choose liberty and eternal life by following Jesus Christ. We are also free to choose captivity and death by following Satan. Jesus came to save the world not condemn it. But each are free to believe as they wish but in the end they will see that Christ proved his love for man by volunteering to pay for their sins on the cross.

@LadyGrace Why would "god" demand parents murder their children if they "dishonoured" them, and by implication "god"? How would this "dishonour" occur and why is the only punishment acceptable is being murdered?

Those who follow Islam would say those demands by god to murder unbelievers is what god demands of them to follow it. How is that any different to the murderous violence ordered by god in the bible? As a follower of neither, I see no difference. It's follow us or die!

The more I see and hear of Abrahamic religions, the more pagan beliefs are the ones I would turn to if I was to become spiritual.
@jackieash

That's a great question! I'll answer this best I can Jackie.

The verse being referred to is Deuteronomy 21:18-21, which describes the procedure for dealing with a rebellious son. However, it's essential to understand the context and cultural background of this passage.

You are right to question this passage, as it seems harsh and contradictory to modern values. However, it's essential to consider the historical and cultural context in which it was written. In ancient Israel, family honor and community cohesion were crucial for survival.

The 'dishonor' referred to in this passage is not just about disobedience but about a son rejecting the values and beliefs of his family and community. The punishment described, is not necessarily about 'god' demanding murder, but about the community's response to someone who threatened their social fabric.

It's also important to note that this passage is not advocating for violence or murder. Rather, it's a legal procedure that emphasizes the seriousness of the offense. In reality, such cases were rare and subject to interpretation by the community elders.

Further, the Bible is a complex and multifaceted text that contains many different genres, historical contexts, and themes. While this passage may seem problematic, it's essential to consider the broader message of compassion, justice, and love that permeates the Bible.

Ultimately, this passage challenges us to think critically about our own values today, and how we respond to conflict and disobedience. It invites us to consider alternative forms of discipline and restoration, that prioritize redemption over punishment.

Obviously, they've been copied from the same sources. 🥔🙂

@LadyGrace Don't you get it? Just go away? Preach somewhere elese. Stop bothering people. Some of us don't believe in this nonsense which is perfectly fine
@BittersweetPotato

You don't get it. Let me explain it to you. Are you so sensitive, that you had to come all the way over and try to tell me what to do? I'll share where I like and when I like. I don't need your permission nor disrespect. I wasn't even talking to you. Nobody forced any beliefs on you. If you don't like it, lump it, lady, look the other way, if you know how to do that. Keep your negativity to yourself. It's not welcome here. Nobody "forced their beliefs on you". Got it? Good. Take your hateful, name calling crusade someplace else, lady. Go take a nap, you might feel better.
BittersweetPotato · 31-35, F
@LadyGrace I said go away 🥔🤣
Islam and Christianity have no similarities as far as interpretation.

I think you better look at that one again. They are nothing alike.

Look at Koran 9:30 in this example. You were saying?

@LadyGrace Look at the guys who wrote the Psalms. These old boys knew a thing or two about God.

Islamic beliefs do not believe that Jesus is the Son of God. Only that he was a good prophet and teacher.

@SUPERVlXEN

I have surely triggered you. Knowing scripture is hardly "all over the place". Let's hear some good reasons why Islam thinks it's okay to behead people that don't believe the same as them. So far we have heard nothing.
SUPERVlXEN · F
@LadyGrace
Nah, but all the notifications from all your separate comments on this post are annoying as they don't add anything new. I might simply mute you to avoid you going nuts on posts you tremble over that have you triggered. Take good care with your obsession.

Don't flatter yourself. I think that's a great idea, but don't simply mute me, block me, so then you can avoid going nuts over my posts that have you "trembling and obsessed", as you say. You should worry more about taking care of yourself and next time when people are trying to have a discussion, please stay on topic or refrain from commenting.
Obviously. Same story revisited. Funny how men always need a god and a semi-god. The all-powerful god must not be satisfying, as they always have to invent a half-human son of a god or a half-divine male prophet to speak god's words. To some extent Mary is another, female, semi-god, for Catholics.
So if Muslims worship this guy as God the Son and believe he died on the cross for their sins :

And believe this is God:

Then we are very similiar 😊

Yes ever religion has similarities but its only ISLAM who wants to enforce it on everyone else.
Katie01 · F
Yeah they all encourage their followers to touch kids
pdockal · 56-60, M
Show me a religion that doesn't have similarities ????
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
They all started from Abraham but that only lasted one generation and then therecwere divisions. Same with Christianity and Islam. Same with the protestant movement.

Even the older religions had divisions. Religion and spirituality are very personal. No two churches or other cluster has the same message. Even families and individuals have different beliefs. To what end I'm not sure anymore. Can you imagine living without a God / higher power concept in your mind? Dogs and cats do it all the time. Doesnt seem to bother them. I think we can have morals, ethics, and laws without a God. With General AI coming soon we better figure out how, because it certainly won't .

@Tastyfrzz Dog spelled backwards is god.
My god wants me to go feed him.

That doesn’t matter. The other two are missing the most important one single key to salvation...Jesus Christ as sole Savior. I’m sure they do have one trillion similarities that are used in ecumenism to tie them all into one common religion bs.

But do modern day interpretations reflect the God of the Psalms? The old boys who wrote these knew a lot more about God, modern Islam, Judaism and Christianity could do well to reflect on these.
I don’t know much about Islam, but I’ve seen some of the similar beliefs. I know why that is. It’s interesting. 🙂
@Colonelmustardseed They're not anything similar in Doctrine.
@LadyGrace I know enough to know the very important thing they lack, but there are still interesting similarities.

Same creator . Different names . (Hashem, Yehova, Allah). Many aliases. lol
Why did you choose not to capitalize Judaism ?
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
Islam and Judaism are virtually identical in practice if not belief. Christianity is markedly different.

Well, they are from the same ancient Hebrew roots.

Never heard it or believe it
pdockal · 56-60, M
I've heard it said. But it's not a very practical way of looking at it since the Christianity-Judaism relationship is much more complicated than that while the Christianity-Islam relationship is more simple

All of the middle eastern and north Aftican religions have similarities
sree251 · 41-45, M
@NativePortlander1970 What are those religions besides Islam?
@sree251 Islam didn't start until the 7th century AD, THOUSANDS of years AFTER the first religions of the middle east and north Africa developed. You're not too bright, are you.
