Widdershins is one of my favorite words to use. I knew a majority of these, but learned a few today. Here's another for ya, Hobbidy-booby. it's a scarecrow

ninalanyon · 61-69, T Best Comment
Heard of most of them, used most of those, not very often for most of them though.
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@ninalanyon The ones I actually do use without thinking of them as so unusual as to need explanation would be: Very roughly most used first, although I don't use any of them often:

agog
widdershins
kerfuffle
cacophony
gobbledygook
lollygag, usually lollygagging
collywobbles
skedaddle
hullabaloo
malarkey
flibbertigibbet
pettifogger, more likely pettifogging
discombobulate
KarenisKenziesmum · 51-55, F
I know a few of them. The manager of our local Internet cafe likes the word "discombobulated", I've often heard him say it. He also says "lollygag" occasionally. "Gobbledygook" is still quite commonly used around here, and so is "jiggery-pokery". I've known the words "agog", "hullabaloo", "kerfuffle", "malarkey", "quire" and "skedaddle" since I was in school. I know one woman who calls armpits "oxters" and she's local (not Scottish or Irish).

Interesting! Heard of maybe half of these. I must revisit this list at some point to see where some of them come from. 7 and 12 obviously French, 36 Scottish, 39 German...the rest don't know.

I knew 1 3 6 8 13 14 16 17 20 and 26 and recognised 9 when you said it - so not bad I think.

Love this list and there are a handful that I’ve heard or used
DrWatson · 70-79, M
I knew roughly one fourth of the list. Of those, I've probably actually used about half.

The one I have used most often is probably "discombobulate."
faery · 31-35, F

meggie · F

samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@meggie I am older, but, obviously, less experienced.
meggie · F
@samueltyler2 well it's not too late for us all to increase our vocabulary
exexec · 70-79, C
I've heard or used 15 of them

But I'll save this list for sure.

I'm familiar with a denary of those listed.

Wouldn't it be great if SW admin gave us all a little window for when someone's being annoying we could press an eject button and they suffer the indignity of "defenestration"
