Rolexeo · 26-30, M
Psycho-Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz
hunkalove · 61-69, M
@Rolexeo Is that still around? A big one for college students back in the 60s. Tried to read it several times. Never got very far with it.
Rolexeo · 26-30, M
@hunkalove It seems very worthwhile so far. Like the answers in the back of your mind you don't consider
JustNik · 51-55, F
I’m listening more than reading these days because I’m working on other projects in my spare time so this way I still get my books while I’m busy. Currently it’s another round of Sense and Sensibility. When I need comfort, it’s Jane or Agatha these days, but I’m still building the library. I hope you enjoy Tolkien! Those stories are old favorites. 🙂
RenFur · 70-79, M
I'm a BAAAAAD person. I don't read books. They're too long. Even the shortest ones.

@whowasthatmaskedman

I'm never careful 'bout most things. I guess I'm doomed, then 😧
RenFur · 70-79, M
@whowasthatmaskedman

You are consistently funny. If you wrote a book as wry as your comments, I'd read it 👍
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@RenFur A read a lot of such books and plagiarise the best..😉
Convivial · 26-30, F
If like to say something deep and meaningful... But in truth its a sci fi trilogy 🤣
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Convivial Not that there is anything wrong with that..😂
Convivial · 26-30, F
@whowasthatmaskedman agreed... Just some light but enjoyable, mental floss🤗

I usually have more than one on the go.

At the moment, three.

"Joseph and His Brothers" by Thomas Mann (very small print and only read a few pages each week - now around page 1100 of 1500)

"Barbarossa : How Hitler Lost the War" by Jonathan
Dimbleby.

"Treasury of the True Dharma Eye" by Eihei Dogen
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
Wives and Daughters by Elizabeth Gaskell.

Time for Socialism bt Thomas Piketty.

The Princes in the Tower by Philippa Langley.

Beowulf (a modern English translation).
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
@SunshineGirl What do you think of the first one? I’ve never read anything by her but I’ve heard others speak well of her.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@Harmonium1923 It's a sort of feminist version of Jane Austen. Looks at the psychologies of two girls and a woman whose destinies are to be shaped by the will of a patriarchal physician. I'm about a third of the way through and fairly gripped.

Elizabeth Gaskell was once employed to write by Charles Dickens, but he apparently found her impossible to work with!
when possible I suggest people red the BOOK before seeing the films
his writing strength is great for your imagination. when i tired a re- reads some years back? I kept seeing those actors..in my head
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
Good question -- just finished THE HOBGOBLIN MURDER by Kay Cleaver Strahan last night, not sure what I'll start to read next. Probably book 3 of The Brentford Trilogy, EAST OF EALING, by Robert Rankin.
hunkalove · 61-69, M
Living the Beatles Legend, by Kenneth Womack (2024). A biography of Beatles' road manager Mal Evans. I think I'm about to give up. One of those "too much information" books. Gets boring.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
I was reading Lasher by Anne Rice but I got sick of it. I'm sick of Anne Rice.
So now I'm reading a book about Sir John A MacDonald (Canada's first Prime Minister), sounds boring but I like it.
GerOttman · 61-69, M
a collection of Issac Asimov's short stories titled Nightfall and other stories. I've read most of them before but still enjoy them.
Thodsis · 51-55, M
Ricky's Hand by David Quantick.

Good luck with Tolkien. I found his books a bit of an effort.
exchrist · 31-35
