Do you agree money is everything

Or how important is it from 1 to 10

i love shopping, i can literally be sad and get happy by buying new shoes or jackets
JonUK31 · 36-40, M
Buying stuff isn't why money's important. That just puts you on a treadmill - keep buying you have to keep earning and the pleasure from buying stuff is short lived.

Money is everything in terms of financial security. Not worrying about how to pay your bills month to month, if something breaks you can replace it etc. Take money worries out of the equation and you can focus your mind on more important things.

This difference between money to buy stuff vs using money to build financial security is best expressed in the book Rich Dad, Poor Dad. Well worth a read.

Long term the goal is to get to a stage where you're going to work because you want to not because you have to. - you can quit any time you want. As an extreme consider Warren Buffet, he lives well below his means and doesn't need to work. But he wants to. He could quit work tomorrow if he wants.

@JonUK31 i know about a treadmill thats why you gotta strategize to exit at some point

This is grand for someone who affords....... Some people are really struggling these days, and while I think I know your meaning about more important things, could you say that to someone budgeting if they can afford food? I'm just curious.
Thankfully I am at a point in my life that I don’t worry about money but I was just as happy when I was not in this position.

Of course not, I've seen people willing to spend millions just to see their loved ones one last time before dying.

We lost all of our material possessions in a fire when I was 7 years old, and I discovered that the love of family and friends is a lot more important. As an adult, I have been broke and enjoy plenty of money now. It is nice to know that I don't have to worry about paying bills, but I still treasure relationships and my faith much more than money.
For me it’s more about the security of having the means to solve problems (if necessary) where money can help. I’m at a point in my life where I don’t need that much.

@bijouxbroussard Often we don't need much, but I think I know your meaning too. I'm younger than you, as long as I have a home, can give good care to my cats, live somewhat comfortable it creates a blanket of security. I thank myself I have never had to reach out to a foodbank, and have always found a way to find substance. I hadn't in such a long time, but apparently, while I thought my income was middle income has become technically in the high class of lower class of Canadian incomes. But I looked at the chart, it went up in my province by $7000 in one year alone, but what matters is your heart and happiness.

You can't teach that to who think money is everything.

Money is overrated. the most valuable thing you can own is life. Being happy, knowing the value of friendship and if you're lucky enough to have a close family. The joy that can bring is worth far more than bits of printed paper and metal tokens
Applepiedom · 56-60, M
Money? If that's all you worry about, you'll be unhappy all your life. When people die,how many nurses do you see with u-hauls behind them carrying all the shit money buys?
If money buys happiness, better look some where else.
Ontheroad · M
It's a means to an end, and for me, not much more.

Never has been something I was driven to have more and more of. I've been every bit as happy when I had little of it, as I am now.
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
No, power is everything, and as it happens, money is, for the most part, how we measure power in our society. Money gives one the power to control their life, at least as much as anyone can.
Blondily · F
No but in this day and age we need it to survive and I like having it.
I'll give it an 8 because I went thru hard times in the past and having money is much much much nicer!
Beautywithin · 36-40, F
Pretty much ! I'd say 8/10 you need it to live even just a basic life which most of us just about doing with the cost of living.
Havesomefun2 · 56-60, M
Money is an important factor for life but millions might disagree with none important things like food health heating
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
It's a necessity of life for me, but not everything.
I value my kids, friends, and family way above money
Some money makes life a lot easier, but it's not everything. I'd say it's maybe a 6 on that scale.
jackson55 · M
Money make the world go around. You can buy anything or anybody with enough money.

@jackson55 truedat
I’d say 7/8 it’s good to have it and nice to spend it , but it does not make you happy all the time x
Strongtea · 22-25, M
I do love clothes shopping, it’s my favourite thing to do if I’m being honest.
WillaKissing · 56-60
If you make your own money spend it how you see fit too!

It's important for the things you need not the things you want
money is important but it's not everything. I'd say 7 / 10
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
It wouldn't bother me if I didn't win Lotto tonight...
Maybe a 3/10?
I need enough to live.

I could work more and earn more ....but who wants to work to live?
Ugh 🙄

I don't like shopping....not anymore .
Been there, rode that horse, realized it's nothing more than a hamster wheel.
Shopping is like an addiction ....or sugar. It's a temporary happiness that only makes your baseline sadder.

There will be a day when you are preening over all your stuff .....alone.
And you will sort it, stack it, shine it, and smile at it ....alone.

Be careful where you place your values - you just might get exactly what you value.
🤷

Having enough money to live comfortably is very important, but money isn't everything. Money won't buy you good health.
