@Cat What if she can't get the lug nuts loose?
TH3S10GUY1 · M
I think she should know a lot about car's not just how to get them to move and to stop for gas when the "low fuel" light is on.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
Any motorist should be able to change a wheel, irrespective of age and sex, save only if physically disabled.
Ynotjenn · F
Anybody driving should know how to do this, especially young girls. Don't want to be stuck on the side of the road with no service and scary men stopping to help.
It's scary out there.

She should know everything she needs to know to be as independent as possible...and take self defense ...that should be mandatory for kids nowadays
Pop0159 · 61-69, M
My children daughter's and son had to change a tire, oil, and filters before they were allowed to get their licence ...

@coolestcat...I would like to boot you with my foot and keep booting you till your brain begins to function
Madgirl · 26-30, F

JustEd · 41-45, M
Anyone should know how to change tireand check fluids before driving
exexec · 61-69, C
I didn't let my daughter get her driver's license until she could change the tire on my pickup truck by herself. She drove the truck, so she needed to know how. It made her very popular with her friends who had flat tires.
elyay2001 · 46-50, M
Of course. Growing up in a world with no cell phones. You needed to know things like that or how to get a car unstuck from the mud when you decided to get drunk and drive into a field that didn't appear to be muddy.

@coolestcat...DUH YOURSELF! If a person is small and has never done it before it is quite difficult mister everyone is a moron but coolestcat...must be magic being with you

When I got a car my dad showed me. That was a long time ago. Cars are pretty complicated now too. I could probably still figure it out but it's safer to call road assist or AAA. It's pretty cheap.
smiler2012 · 61-69
singleman it would be a good thing for her to know if she gets a flat tyre miles from nowhere with no help available unless you where a member of the aa or rac with a mobile phone at hand

My daughters learned to drive in the early 90's, and yes, I taught both how to, but the problem is that most lug nuts are put on with an air impact driver, making it nearly impossible to remove with a tire iron (I actually bent a "T" bar once trying to remove lugnuts). Today, I'd want them to call me, so I could go and remove the lugs with my cordless impact driver, but she would be right there helping me...my 16 year old should not be THAT far from my house in the first place...JS
buddyhilly · 56-60, M
for tight lug nuts, yes htye are all put on wiht power in factory, , the solutinis to put tyre ironon, then lickit down with your foot, thi sloosens it without bendinf tyre iron, then jack up car, and undo lugs nuts, change wheel, then tighten as much as oyu can with hands, then lower car, and tighten by jumping on them agian with your leg
Myzery · 41-45, F
Yes. Everyone should know. I changed many tires at 16.
Pop0159 · 61-69, M
Hopeless, not knowing how to do it and having to do so is far more dangerous ... Even with phones and road service things can happen out of the range of service with weather approaching . . . All it takes is one call from your daughter thanking for having such a stupid rule and saying it likely saved their lives .. Knowledge is often power ...
Ramon67 · 61-69, M
I taught my daughter when she was 13
Pop0159 · 61-69, M
Well they were in an area with no phone service and it was getting late .. no cars were going by and they were scared ..
my youngest daughter waited 2 hours for AAA to come and change her tire ... and was a bit leary about the guy who made her stand outside the car on the road ... but she had a choice .. .. ..

If you drive you should know. A couple years back i had a guy stop to help me and would not take no for an answer. I was like dude i change tires better than you... But he was just like but youre a tiny lady and im a big strong man
TwiddlerofThumbs · F
At 16? Why not! Its not that hard. I'm pretty sure you learn the first time you get one and you are stuck alone fixing it. Not a complicated problem.
1961dave · 61-69, M
I think if she's driving she should. I don't mean she should necessarily have to change it if it goes flat. But she should know for an emergency.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
I knew how to fix a flat when I was that age,and did a few times, it's good to know....but having AAA roadside service doesn't hurt either.
buddyhilly · 56-60, M
paretn should teach thier kids to do stuff, by my eldest woul dhave just laughed and told me, shed find a man ot do it for her,
CallmeHopelessNotRomantic · 46-50, F
Lol forget that. My kids aren't gonna get hurt doing stuff like that. It can be dangerous if it's not done properly.
CallmeHopelessNotRomantic · 46-50, F
It's cool and all but my daughters aren't gonna be on the side of the road working on cars. I have roadside assistance for these things.
SW-User
I don't have a daughter, but you bet she'd know how to fix it. And how to get a strong man to help her ;).
TheCoolestCat · 31-35, M
you hit them a boot with your foot... just keep booting it till they losen up
CallmeHopelessNotRomantic · 46-50, F
No. That's what roadside service is for. I don't pay extra for that shit for no reason!
TheCoolestCat · 31-35, M
its simple,,,, jack up the car, take the wheel off put a new one on...... duh
