What’s the scariest ( non violent) sound you’ve heard that’s woken you up in the middle of the...

Years ago I shared a flat with two other girls that was next to a furniture warehouse. One night I woke up to massive bangs that sounded like fireworks exploding right outside my window.

I opened the curtains, ready to yell some obscenities at whoever had disturbed my sleep and saw that the warehouse was on fire. The bangs were the residual heat causing the tyres on their van to explode.

We left our flat and the three of us stood outside in our nighties. Seconds later there were Sirens and blue lights. And firemen running around shouting instructions to one another.
With massive hoses!!

We got told by the firemen to go back inside. Apparently we were distracting them. Lol. I thought. Are you kidding me?? That was NEVER going to be happening. 😂

Decades ago, when I lived downtown and someone had set the apartment building’s garage on fire. My husband woke up first and one of the neighbors was banging on everyone’s door. We were rushing to get dressed and I grabbed my purse and a photo album.

If it ever happens again (Gawd forbid) I would grab my purse, my phone and my IPad, I think.

Once I was camping deep in the forest with my sister in separate tents the kind of site you had to hike into and in the middle of the night I heard animals rummaging through the camp. My sister forgot to put away some of her food in her car and it was pretty scary, in my head it was bears but most likely it was racoons or something.

Another scary sound is one of your kids or animals throwing up in the middle of the night

It’s never been anything externally that’s done that. But I will randomly get woken up to a loud bang in my head. Hasn’t happened more than a handful of times, but it’s jarring and sends me in an instant panic because I never know if it’s something or someone in the house creating that bang.

Scariest? Not sure I can find that in my memory...most annoying? The people in the room next door at a hotel getting it on. And by annoying, I mean enviable.....

and I have had a few scary awakenings....but they would be classified as violent...so...

My oldest used to have night terrors. Definitely not a fan of being awaken to blood curdling screams.

What sounded like either a wounded animal, or someone thought the sound of Cats or another animal having sex... it was freaking creepy.

The worst sounds that I actually know what they were....

A morning dove moaning by the window near my head at first early in the morning...

And in the middle of the next... a strong storm (former hurricane now weakened) was going through, and I woke up to what I thought was someone knocking on my window...

Turned out the knocking was a tree split in half, and one of the branches was now knocking on my window.

A flipping possum.

I was young teen doing field work for the Uni. We were tracking bettongs at night. Between shifts in the tracking tent, we'd sit around the fire outside.

Anywho, there we were, quietly enjoying the stars when all of a sudden right behind me i hear this ....

When i spun around it wasnt much better as it was an albino possum and its eyes were flipping glowing due to the light from the fire - so it looked like a ghost demon with claws

Everyone else pissed themsleves laughing😂
