Do you think food taste better when someone else makes it? Or prefer your own cooking?

Because daughter just made me toast, and good damn toast.

Honestly I like my own cooking and I eat out so much when traveling for work that I would usually rather cook when I’m home. But it’s also a treat when my kid makes dinner. And he’s becoming a good cook himself!

It's usually far better when I make it because I know what ingredients are all in there. I can taste which ones are singing in harmony with each other and which ones punch through the noise. I can identify the progression of flavors and the isolate the different sensations on my tongue. When I nail a recipe, I can usually tell within the first bite why it succeeded.

It's like listening to a song you like and separating the bass from the drums from the guitar from the vocals to realize the genius behind each of these musicians contributions. Or maybe like watching a movie for the second or third time and picking up on the little details you missed with regards to set design or costume or dialogue.

For me, knowing the ingredients makes the experience so much more enjoyable

I can't remember the last time anyone made me anything. I've gone out to eat here and there but I actually prefer my own cooking usually.
@ScreamingFox I usually prefer my cooking. And someone hadn't made me anything in years. Maybe that's why it tasted good.

Or. I was hungry

My grandma's cooking was the best I ever had in my life. My mom's is a close second. My own is okay.

I’ve had too many people try to force me to eat meat or dairy so unless I can fully trust that they won’t try that then my brain won’t let me eat anything made by anyone else 😅
When I was a kid, I called toast "slightly burnt bread"

I would put butter and a whole lot of cinnamon sprinkles on it.
then years later Cinnamon toast crunch comes out

it makes no difference to me

I prefer my wife's cooking, but my cashew chicken is pretty darn good.

Usually it tastes better when someone else prepares it. 😆 But there are some foods I prefer to cook myself.
If they are made with love....to the food.

Depends on who has the better skills. All things being equal...when someone else makes it

Other people for sure. I don't enjoy cooking. ☹
