Do you think food taste better when someone else makes it? Or prefer your own cooking?

Because daughter just made me toast, and good damn toast.

It's usually far better when I make it because I know what ingredients are all in there. I can taste which ones are singing in harmony with each other and which ones punch through the noise. I can identify the progression of flavors and the isolate the different sensations on my tongue. When I nail a recipe, I can usually tell within the first bite why it succeeded.

It's like listening to a song you like and separating the bass from the drums from the guitar from the vocals to realize the genius behind each of these musicians contributions. Or maybe like watching a movie for the second or third time and picking up on the little details you missed with regards to set design or costume or dialogue.

For me, knowing the ingredients makes the experience so much more enjoyable
