Selling my house, taking my investments and moving to Panama in 2-3 years. Much more affordable, pretty, no hurricanes, they use the dollar, and I speak Spanish anyway.

It's the 72nd anniversary of your friend/fiend Stalin taking the dirtnap, and the 12th of that buffoonish, 3 stooges-like dictator Hugo Chavez.
Man up and pull yourself together, your heroes are gone and Trump won. Brace yourself - the best is yet to come.

@PatKirby Keep licking his boots. But he still doesn't care that you exist. Talk about a conservative with daddy issues.

I've got a large acreage and no nearby neighbors and love it. So as long as I can keep up with it, I'll stay put. Plus it's the only place my kids have known as home. So I feel some peace to know they can come to a place that is home to them and unload their stresses of adult life. I'll just keep this as my home base as I travel around.
luckranger71 · 51-55, M
Hmm. Both? It will depend where my kids end up. I think they’ll both be in places I would like living in. But something to be said for keeping a house that’s paid off and traveling.
carpediem · 61-69, M
Sell my house, buy a smaller one nearby as to stay in touch with Kids and grandkids, buy a second home in a different climate and travel when the urge strikes.
Depends on if you would truly be happy at the dream destination, as I've read a number of stories of where people weren't...
But the dream destination seems like the ideal to me

Seems after I retired I found I can't as I am married. My wife has an endless list of more home remodeling jobs and I am also the chef that cooks dinners.
I guess by the "Keep the house and travel" you mean to rent it out, because otherwise, unless you have tons of money in your pension, you won't be able to afford to travel.
If you live in a big city you can sell your house, move outside the city and buy something nicer with more land, and have lots of money to travel with, so you could do both top options.
If your house has a suite in it, you might be able to live off that money, but the income is not a guarantee, so maybe when you are in Honduras on the beach you find out the people stopped paying the rent.

@JamesBugman Your ego has your mind trapped on cloud nine.
skmokisses · 46-50, F
@JamesBugman No, the house will be paid off and the plan would be to keep it as home base when not traveling. If that is the route I chose.
Cantsayno · 56-60, M
I bought a smaller house 28 years ago. My mortgage is less than people’s rent right now.
I’ll be retired in the next few years. I’m hoping for the simple life with some traveling.

I stoped working for others 5 years ago. I’m living in my dream destination now, but I wouldn’t retire. I love what I do.
@DareToSayIT Wait until you are 65 before saying that. ;)
DareToSayIT · 31-35, M
@JamesBugman I have people in their 70s working for me, they haven’t said it yet :)
@DareToSayIT Probably because you don't pay them enough. ;)

@JimboSaturn That's the part that has me torn. I love the area/town, and the house!

I already am where I belong. So I just stayed here and found a way to live without feeling like a waste of time.

I would rather buy a house in my dream destination along with a boat and maintain the hunting ranch property in Georgia while living in Key West or the Bahamas
Crusher69 · 61-69, M
Well before retirement i bought a suitable house in an area i wanted to be in when i retired - a lockup-and-leave so that i can travel, in a great community
exexec · 70-79, C
We kept the house, but we aren't traveling much.
vetguy1991 · 51-55, M
I thinking of having a small farm
PicturesOfABetterTomorrow · 41-45, M
I would love to be able to afford a house and afford to retire.
Livingwell · 61-69, M
Sold my house, moved to my forever home, and travel.
Theyitis · 36-40, M
When I get old I don’t imagine the concept of retirement will exist anymore for ordinary people in the USA. I’ll have to keep working until I die so billionaires can buy more yachts.

I dunno, it really depends on what my life will look like. If I retired rn I'd just stay in my apartment until I know what to do.

I want to sit at a local breakfast joint most of the day with my bottomless cup of senior coffee, griping about kids today and their music.
