What is your opinion on the Kronstadt rebellion?

Razoreye001 · 31-35, M
@Gloomy Well they were anarchists, they played stupid games and won stupid prizes. Some Anarchists make useful allies to Marxists, but some have more liberal tendencies.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@Gloomy Exactly the first questoin to ask a Trot.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@Gloomy not being super familiar with this rebellion I looked it up quickly on Wikipedia, which is probably biased.
But my understanding is that this is a group that wanted the Bolsheviks to actually begin moving towards the general goals of idealized communism (more libertarian left, moving closer to stateless) as the Civil War was ending? Or am I misunderstanding / missing a lot of the context here?

You said "Ask me anything", and then people ask meaningful questions (mostly), and then – you remain silent. 🫤
Trotsky would disapprove of that.
Trotsky would disapprove of that.

@helenS Sorry I had things to do, I'll get to them now.

@HoraceGreenley Where is the dividing line for you between Capitalism and Socialism exactly?
Are you okay with socialized police and fire departments in the US? What about socialized infrastructure such as public roads and phone lines? What about our socialized national defense forces? Libraries? Public schools? Postal services?
How do you identify when we have too much Socialism? And how can you state that capitalism does more good when practically every nation on earth uses mixed economies and almost without fail puts the aspects of society they care most about under socialist models?

@HoraceGreenley Lol, you're a bourgeoisie apologist.
Razoreye001 · 31-35, M
@HoraceGreenley I'd really hate to use the meme of this USSR grifter, but it fits.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
Every Trot I've ever met has weird eyes. Confirm or deny.
deadgerbil · 26-30
@CountScrofula get out of here with your LiBeRaL history

HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@Razoreye001 Pretty typical for a Communist
Razoreye001 · 31-35, M
@HoraceGreenley Ok, I'm done with you, be purged [blocked].
helenS · 36-40, F
Did Leon Trotsky agree with Georgi Dimitrov, regarding the definition of fascism? If not, what objections did he make?
Razoreye001 · 31-35, M
@helenS Well I don't know too much about him, besides the fact he was in charge of the Third International. Seeing as Trotsky wanted to create a Fourth International I don't think they'd get along.
helenS · 36-40, F
@Razoreye001 Thank you 🌷
val70 · 51-55
@Razoreye001 Trotsky admited that fascism was a middle class (which he agnolished as being a petty bourgeoisie) movement that grew out of a collapse of capitalism. Dimitrov, however, defined it as the open terroristic dictatorship of the most reactionary and most imperialist elements of finance capital
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
Slightly bemused
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@room101 So you don't like Milton Friedman?
room101 · 51-55, M
@HoraceGreenley Never met him so can't say whether I like him or not. However, the fact remains that his economic ideas, and the implementation of said ideas by Ronnie and Mags, has caused immeasurable harm.
Razoreye001 · 31-35, M
@HoraceGreenley He was the friend of that butcher Pinnochet, and his economics only help keep the poor poor while benefitting the rich.

@Gloomy I'm not being a traditionalist. I'm in favor of doing the most good for the most people.

@Gloomy Global sourcing has occurred for thousands of years and predates capitalism. If people had better alternatives they would not work for pennies.

@SatanBurger No.
SatanBurger · 36-40, FVIP
@Razoreye001 🤨
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@Gloomy The minimum wage is not a joke. It serves a purpose.
You can't spend your life in minimum wage jobs. Their purpose is to help you get a better job. You can't make a living flipping burgers.

@HoraceGreenley Sounds like exploitation to me, and why should someone with no work experience not deserve a career?
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@HoraceGreenley I would posit that if any job does not pay a living wage, then it should not be a job. If McDonald's cannot make affordable hamburgers while paying employees enough to make a basic living, then McDonalds probably shouldn't exist as a business. I do not think someone flipping burgers should make as much as say, a teacher. But they should be able to afford to eat and keep a roof over their head. Also, it's evidence of a broken system that critical roles such as teachers are paid so low while hedge fund managers and professional athletes make millions.
Personally, I view the solution for burger flipping as revisiting quality public housing without means testing as a way to create more options for affordable shelter. That competition would hopefully apply downward pressure on private rents and housing values as well. We need to moderate home ownership as an investment vehicle. Controlling for costs of living is another way to bring people into living wage territory without increasing minimum wages.

@Burnley123 The Huxley quote is not really a meme. It's a quote.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@Burnley123 Is that like bullshit?
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@HoraceGreenley It literally means testicles but you are right.
deadgerbil · 26-30
With your political stance, what would you like to see happen in Ukraine?
Razoreye001 · 31-35, M
@deadgerbil Here's an interesting fact, Leon Trotsky was Ukrainian. He wrote about the treatment of Ukraine under Stalin, and said such mismanagement and oppression shows the communists of Ukraine needed independence from the USSR. Also seeing as Putin is a reactionary, and a fascist I think Trotsky's opinion on Putin would be the same as his opinion on Hitler. So in the short term, I support NATO until Vladimir Putin is overthrown in Russia. After which NATO should be disbanded.
val70 · 51-55
What were the conversations of Simmone Weil with Trotsky about?
Razoreye001 · 31-35, M
@val70 I haven't gotten to read them yet, they are on the list.
val70 · 51-55
@Razoreye001 Okido
BohemianBabe · M
How do you feel about Trotsky being a simp for Stalin?
Razoreye001 · 31-35, M
@BohemianBabe Trotsky realized Hitler was the real threat, so saying Stalin is better than Hitler doesn't mean he simped for Stalin.
BohemianBabe · M
@Razoreye001 You can say someone is the lesser evil without defending them regularly, like Trotsky did for Stalin.
Havesomefun2 · 56-60, M

Why are you using big words
deadgerbil · 26-30
@empanadas ikr, heard that so many of them don't even like that word lol
empanadas · 31-35, M
@deadgerbil the word Latino is already offensive enough to most Latin Americans. It's basically just grouping us with our colonizers. Then put an X and the whole Latin American community wants to throw beer bottles
deadgerbil · 26-30
@empanadas what would the preferred word be that wouldn't group y'all with your Spanish and Portuguese colonizers?
