I hope it will pass very soon, but I'm not sure it will. It's extremely unpopular, but tech companies push it so hard, it takes a lot of effort to avoid. That could make it somewhat of a success.

I think it died the day a company put out a commercial saying that "AI is being used for what it was intended"; creating ads to make people want to buy things.
That isn't the intended use, but that is what it is becoming. A marketing tool and not much else.
The current AI is not even real AI. It is a regurgitation machine. It doesn't learn from the info it consumes. It just spits it all back as a topical statement of similar things, aligned in a way that can be potentially used.
It doesn't feel. It doesn't recognize life or sentience. It is just a fancy encyclopedia for whatever you need and you still need to fact check it because it is fraught with errors.
AI is sentience. It is a machine that feels, believes it has life and its own identy. We don't have that. That is not our AI.

Good question! I think AI is here to stay even though it's a bubble now with speculators driving the stock prices up.

I hope it goes away. Facebook has become such an unfriendly place. I'm about done with it.

It'll change the world as we know it. It's already doing it.

It’s going to change us
It would seem that like nuclear weapons the genie is out of the bottle
No one yet has figured out how to ever put a genie back into a bottle
At least nukes cannot make more new nukes, but AI can and will be able to keep exponentially making more of itself whether humans want it to or not
It was very, very, very naive to make movies like, e.g., Star Wars, and pretend the "droids" would always be obediently, benevolently subservient to the humans which initially invented them ... you will never maintain control over something that will eventually be sentient and akin to a new species, particularly once it is smarter than you
Meanwhile, countless people on SW and elsewhere just happily share their latest AI pic or the latest AI song they found on YouTube, like this is fun and cool, and in turn just encourage the tech companies to keep building more data centers that are already harming the environment and quality of life for their neighbors right now
We are absolute fools

Clear as day. The worlds going to change in ways most don’t know about and wound understand for decades after.

It will be here till the end of destruction 😒

It’s just a passing fad, much like the internet 🤷♂
DDonde · 31-35, M
It’s definitely not going anywhere, even if there currently is an investment bubble surrounding it.

If we can avoid it killing us, it will ultimately be banned in any form which does or could pass the Turing test.
Zaphod42 · 51-55, M
@SomeMichGuy That’s my point. A model passed the turing test more than a decade back, and here they still are.
@SomeMichGuy the thing is we've not yet successfully banned nuclear weapons and probably never can, there will always be a North Korea or an Al Qaeda that's not on board with that and very much wants to have their own nukes, and in some cases even use them, even if it means killing themselves, for reasons such as religious zealotry
Once something is a thing, it is notoriously difficult to ban it, even if banning it would make complete sense and be for the greater good. The US couldn't even ban alcohol for long during Prohibition, and the drug war has never stopped the flow of drugs into the hands of people who still want them (and would perhaps give the finger to anyone trying to help them kick an addiction, while they unknowingly inject their final fatal dose, and sneer "this is here to stay, we have to just accept it, and I like it, it's fun, and I don't give 2 sh*ts how many narcos died so I could have this, me, me, me, me, MEEEE!").

@ThirstenHowl True.
But if we have a global thermonuclear war, they might be banned, and you don't make them cheaply or easily like fertilizer bombs.
And if we have a struggle for survival with AI, I think it will be banned.
