Frank Sinatra and Karen Carpenter.

Nat King Cole….

Best singer in what context, vocal range might be Annie Lennox or Freddy Mercury. Could be Pavarotti. Best singer songwriter might be a better way to consider it?

At the end I'm thinking - he's not going to keep going higher and higher is he??!
Patriot96 · 56-60, C
@RenFur notice he didnt strain to reach those high notes

Yes. Unbelievable is what that performance was. Unforgettable, too.

As a man who has been singing as a profession for over 70 years, In my opinion that would be Lara Fabian, a Canadian/Belgian lady who speaks 14 languages, and sings in 20. Here is one of her best performances that she sings in French, but has English subtitles. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dVvlmpo5g9k

@Ryansgrampy New to me. Damn. That woman is on fire. Grabbed me with her pause at the beginning of the song before she started. That's a confident performer. Thanks for this.
@Ryansgrampy oooh ....i got goose bumps 🤩
Ryansgrampy · 80-89, M
She came before Celine and was very big in Europe. She only became known here after a song she wrote and performed called Broken Vow made it big here. Look that one up and play it, you will not be dissapointed.

Ooh there's one to cause debate !

Well, i guess it rather depends on how you define 'best'.

Ive no doubt a little research would tell you whose concerts outsold anybody else's; which artist sold the most records/8-tracks/Albums/Cassettes/C:D's/...whatever medium is sold these days, but that only means what was popular at that exact time.

If it comes down to a specific artist i suspect you'll get everyone from Maria Callas to Aretha Franklin.
From Frank Sinatra to Liam Gallagher.

Personally I'd nominate somebody like William 'Smokey' Robinson.
A man whose professional career began in the late 50's; was made a 'Superstar' by Berry Gordy at Motown when he put him with The Miracles; and managed to keep himself musically busy up until the early noughties.

Okay, okay, seriously, I saw where some magazine recently said Mick Jagger.

I might also suggest Tom Jones. They formed a new church around the belief that his voice was somehow divine or angelic.

Ooooooohhh that’s really tough to answer. I’m thinking in terms of how many people love the music and voice, I’d go for Freddie Mercury.
DavidSBianchet · 51-55, M
there are many ways to look at it. But, for me, it's Karen Carpenter. She had an amazing tone and an incredible amount of talent.

Of all time....even though I wouldn't say she's a favorite of mine I guess I'd have to go with Whitney Houston in her prime.

Believe it or not, the dancer Fred Astaire was the choice of many top songwriters to sing their songs.
hunkalove · 61-69, M
Hard to answer. I guess Frank Sinatra gets my vote.
RedBaron · M
Why only one?
TJNewton · M
David Bowie and no one else comes anywhere as close to being as brilliant David was
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@TJNewton we are playing all of Ziggy live this weekend plus some outtakes like Velvet Goldmine.
TJNewton · M
@uncalled4 Excellent bud hope you and the audience have a great night 🤙
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@TJNewton I believe we have a couple hundred tickets sold. If a Ziggy box comes out soon, we'll probably play it even more often. 2 years ago, we did Ziggy AND Station To Station, you would have loved it.
