Any Elon Musk fans here ?

Don't like his neuralink but love his stance on free speech.... a flamethrower for snowflakes 馃敨馃敟馃槑

@BritishFailedAesthetic Could be. Twitter used to mark misinformation posts as possibly counterfactual; Elon halted that. Do you think it was better with the warnings or without?
@ElwoodBlues People can make their own minds up- you must remember the days of no misinformation warnings!

People should know how to do a basic fact check themselves.

I like him. It's good to see someone with money who isn't pure evil. I love that he bought Twitter to restore free speech. I wish he'd buy Disney, and fix that company. It's a shame what the liberal freaks have done to it.

@AbbeyRhode Disney, needs to sack all of the management and go back to the basics
AbbeyRhodeF
@nedkelly It would be bad enough if they simply forgot that they were created for kids and families, but they are actively supporting groomers and hiring pedos now. That company needs a complete clear out, and anyone caught sniffing or perving on kids should be shot.

Split decision. I've said and I'll continue to say that I'm grateful to Elon Musk for dragging the world auto industry kicking and screaming into the electric era. I'm guessing he sped up the transition by ten or more years. With that said, I find his egotism and his politics despicable.

@Emosaur Agreed, public transportation is the better option. However, most cities and towns in the US have lousy public transport available, and most US citizens love their cars too much to change. Our solution has to take account of these facts.
plus most electric car batteries use cobalt
An electric car with a 70kWh battery pack has about 63 kilos of lithium, and that lasts for about 150,000 miles. The environmental damage of 150,000 miles worth of fossil fuels is FAR worse than the environmental damage of 150,000 miles worth of lithium.

We are already weaning ourselves off of cobalt:
Tesla is already using cobalt-free LFP batteries in half of its new cars produced
Apr 22 2022
Australia produces over 20% of the world's cobalt and they do so without exploiting workers.

I have addressed the fossil fuel part of your comment at top level under this question.

@Emosaur says
Electric cars are pretty pointless if the electricity used to charge them comes from non-renewables,
Not so when the grid power plant is twice as efficient as the internal combustion engine that powers the car.

Electric cars have a FAR lower lifetime CO2 footprint and a FAR lower lifetime energy footprint. Since energy correlates closely to dollars, it means electric cars have a far lower total cost of ownership. There are a lot of comparisons online like this one; I picked it because I liked the graphs.

These graphs are for Vancouver CA in 2018, so energy costs are similar to the US; however energy is represented in megajoules - there are 3.6 MJ in a KWH, and 1 MJ = .37 horsepower hours. It assumes 150,000Km of travel over the life of the car, about 93,000 miles.

Lifecycle CO2 costs (these include extracting & transporting oil)

And yes, the US has the electric capacity. Now.
If all US cars were EVs, they would need a total of 1,106.6TWh, which is 27.6% of what the American grid produced in 2020.
