Quatsch.

@Thinkerbell the "western world" isnt built on any sense of moral. Its built on power and profits. It also has a history of blatant racism and sexism
Thinkerbell · 41-45, F
@Guitarman123
That may be true, but the West in general is at least a century ahead of China and Russia in overcoming that history.

@Thinkerbell i wish that was true but the west has a long way still to go. People Crying about preserving western traditions doesn't help

Mussolini was indeed once far left, but when he founded the Fascisti, he dropped all ideas of communal ownership of the means of production. Fascist Italy never abolished private corporations.
The transition from far left to far right is not difficult, particularly at lower levels. Lots of former Red Front bully boys in Germany joined the Storm Troopers when the Nazis took over. They just liked to brawl, so whose heads they were breaking didn't make much difference to them, nor did ideology.

@Slade gramsci was a Marxist and vocal supporter of italian workers. He came up with the idea of cultural hegemony which he believed was how the capitalist class was able to maintain power over society
Entwistle · 56-60, M
It always amazes me that people think Animal Farm is about socialism.
It's story is more recognisable in capitalism.

There are certain areas of a purely capitalist system that are self-destructive, inhumane, or wildly inefficient. Notice how during times of war most countries adopt socialist economic policies in order to make sure their armed forces are properly supplied. Also notice how many socialist policies in otherwise capitalist economies are designed to target areas in which capitalism fails - energy, health care/public health, transportation...
Socialized health care seems like a no brainer to me. So much of the US economy goes to health care - money and energy that could be better spent elsewhere.

An honest question- what do you think of the late Kim Philby? Traitor or hero?
For me he was a true British traitor.

Communism is the same as the "free market".. A damned good idea on paper, until you let people get their hands on it...😷
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@LeopoldBloom Bingo.. Trade is the key here. Israel took a resource poor lump of desert and tilled and watered it till it produced Citrus, then traded those and kept working and plowing back the profits..For that they needed efficiencies that communist centralised economies infamously lack..😷
LeopoldBloom · M
@whowasthatmaskedman The kibbutzim that were established in Israel after its independence were closer to communist than any nominally communist country. Some of them even forbade personal possessions. Israel's success was due in part to them. However, they weren't isolated, so they wouldn't qualify as pure communist.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@LeopoldBloom We could debate just how much isolation was really required for a Communist set up. But I think we care close enough for agreement. The interesting part is that with total effort and no corruption caused waste, the model was internationally competitive with primary produce..😷

Years ago I got in trouble for living like a wild man with no government.
I burned all my identification, proof of who I was and went and lived in the wild mountains for a couple of years.
I was actually happy with my life. No government, no authority to rule my life.
Just me living off the land.
They caught me, accused me of crimes, charged my trespassing and bunch more shit
My uncle was a great lawyer at the time (he passed away) got 99% of the charges dismissed if I agree to live with permanent address
I never felt free or truly happy ever since
Government stole my freedom

@Emosaur I don't want government to exist at all.
I am forced to live like a slave to a government I don't want. Forced to pay taxes, forced to live where I don't want to live.
Forced forced and forced or be jailed for no complying
How is that freedom
