Hopefully yes.
AuRevoir · 36-40, M
Yes. It was never an original structure to begin with in America. We always used External Revenue to fund the taxing. And the IRS was established very late in Americas history. Trump is restoring that order, instead of allowing a corrupt government that continues to tax the people to death beyond a state of living.
It will be replaced with the ERS. And completely dismantled. As soon as the workers are filled for the positions. Until then the IRS will remain in place.

@zonavar68 because red pill is associated with the manosphere, which is commonly affiliated with right wing politics and sometimes apolitical/centrism
Red Pill is being awake of the truth but being realistic; White Pill would be optimistic about it, while Black Pill is pessimistic; Blue Pill would be ignorant of the truth and Purple is in between Red and Blue
there's also other pills like pink (feminism) and orange (cryptocurrency), but they're mostly irrelevant

@SunshineGirl Your logic is so strange. Basically you want to believe it’s okay to tax your own rich citizens, who there are far less of in the world. Than the outside source of the global citizens who use your country to make their massive profits, which tariffs would allow.
It’s just hypocritical. I’m done arguing at this point. If you don’t see the blatant and obvious double standards you’re setting within your own logic. Then I’m not even going to bother with further engagement.
Tax a lower supply of the worlds rich because they’re your own citizens at extortionate levels of income taxes- “Yes! Very good! Tax them more!”
Tax the rest of the worlds rich which use the healthiest marketplace in the world known as America, who constantly use it to gain their wealth, by applying reasonable tariffs, which are half of the cost of your own populaces income tax percentages- “No! That’s very bad! They should be allowed to make that money without the tariff! Only if you live in America should you be taxed that way!”
Your argument is just set in double standards.

@AuRevoir In taxation terms there is no such entity as a "global citizen". You are registered to pay personal taxes in one jurisdiction and that is the end of the matter.
Strange fact: many rich people made their fortunes from international trade.
Quite how you managed to pivot a discussion about the justice of income tax to the poorest in society to Trump's bizarre theories on tariffs is beyond me 🤔

You both seem to have an issue with reading comprehension. The US did not have a federal income tax until 1913. Fact. The US was still able to finance military, infrastructure, law enforcement, etc. Fact.
Prior to 1913, the US used excise taxes and tariffs - not income taxes sunshine...the civil war was the exception.
Nice alt account, Leo.

@jefferson Your lucky you had a Army there or you would be speaking German now.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@BizSuitStacy You didn't mention federal income tax, your original post said "Before 1913 Americans kept all of their income".
A number of southern states taxed income derived from property throughout the 19th century. There was a federal income tax from 1861-1873, and again in 1894-5 to replace revenue from tariffs after America became more isolationist and international trade dried up (Trump take note).
Because in the real world public infrastructure doesn't "just happen" 🤷♀

If I read between the lines and look at trumps last changes to the tax code, I’d say they’d aim to greatly simplify tax code and potentially move towards auto filing in more cases (like many other countries) and reduce the IRS need and direct them to focus energy on complex scenarios
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@SunshineGirl I'm amazed that automatic deductions aren't already the way you do it. It's straightforward for the most part. Adjustments can be made one way or the other at the end of the tax year if needed. Although it works for the majority, it doesn't work for lots of people, so you need a system of filing for them. I'm not sure you would need extra staff for an automatic system, but employers would need accountants to help rather than employees.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@FreddieUK I'm from the UK too. It used to be considered a burden on the employer, but most PAYE is now essentially a conversation between automated accounting systems. Those require investment to set up and maintain, and some human intervention to reduce the risk of fraud, but it's greatly more efficient than everyone filing individually.
My nighbour who is self-employed, was charged £500 by a accountancy firm for auditing his accounts and submitting an annual tax return. He spent nearly four days gathering and putting the data into an acceptable format. His £500 bought him 2.5 hours of work by a non-qualified assistant, 1 hour from an actual accountant, and a lot of very expensive looking embossed paper.

If a flat tax were implimented with fewer or no write offs (deductions), maybe the IRS itself isnt even necessary? Id love to see Trump and all the ultrawealthy pay a flat tax they cannot weasel their way out of. America has bills to pay; billionares not paying their fairshare is simply not paying the bills.
jehova · 31-35, M
@Reason10 and theyd been on the table held up by the federal legislature for at least 30 years. Marihuana tax act of 1938 fml. Then the dea was established by the controlled substances act. The legislature did not do due diligence. And continue to require nearly being put at gun point to act. Trump did it? Idk he likely helped but said legislation was on pause since the 1980s. He didnt veto what finally got passed?, after that long.
Reason10 · 70-79, M
@jehova Trump signed the bill (in his first term) legalizing the growing and production of Hemp.
(This is where it gets a little complicated.) I watched several businesses take advantage of that Trump law to introduce what they refer to as a line cannabinoid projects, stuff made from hemp. CBD oil, to name one. Hell, there are CBD canned drinks here that actually contain THC, and they are legal. (I don't drink them because (a) I'm a substitute teacher for two Florida counties, subject to a pee test, and (b) I'll ingest ANY TCH in my body only at gun point.)
We have medical marijuana. There are medical marijuana clinics all over the place here. Doctors hand out scripts to that stuff like Jehovah's Witnesses hand out THE WATCHTOWER, all over the place.
In the last election, recreational marijuana was on the referendum. (That's an exercise of raw Democracy, getting bills to the public that the legislature won't touch with a ten foot pole.)
Even though I would never touch the stuff, I voted for it, mostly just to fuck up the street marijuana trade. Also helps to have a new source of sales tax revenues, (event though Florida's budget is in surplus.)
Trump is a resident of Florida. He voted for it.
Our conservative Governor (Ron DeSantis, who is arguably the finest governor in the history of this state) voted against it.
The measure didn't pass.
Cannabinoids? Wanna REALLY have some fun with your brain cells and piss off the liquor industry?
One of the after effects of Trump legalizing Hemp was the vast number of Kava bars that sprung up all over the place. They offer natural cannabinoid drinks that likely can pick you up, knock you out or make you feel high as a kite.
One of these items is KRATOM. It is part of the coffee plant. It can either make you very drowsy, make you very hyper or make you feel high. Some say it affects the same part of the brain as Methadone. It is usually taken in tea form.
(I tried it, but threw it up. Apparently I can't hold down any opium products OR products that act like opium. Same thing happened when I took Lortab for a toothache. Got dizzy and then barfed.)
Some of these bars are kinda low key. A lot of them are mid Sixty ish psychedelic joints that have you thinking you've transported back to Woodstock.
I can't speak for the rest of the country. I just know these places are here.

Trump should probably emigrate to Russia with his MAGA cult. Putin has got Russia set up to suit his whims and wishes which is how Trump wants to set America up.
Russia is also massively in debt and inflation is running at about 25% making life very uncomfortable for every day Russians but Pootin doesn’t care. He’s worth mega billions and has massive Dachas all over Russia that are guarded by his security teams.

@Reason10 when using 2023 fiscal year the United States Federal Government spent $6.2 Trillion revenue decreased by 15.5% compared to 2022. 21 to 25%% of the federal budget goes to provide monthly retirement payments to retired Americans (specifically social security) an average of $1922 each to about 52 million 65 year old and older Americans totalling 1.5 trillion monthly, health at about 28% third largest military expenditure at 13.3% or about $843 billion monthly. Fourth largest prisons? About 190 billion a year.

@Reason10 which bills do you refer to and how did the republicans vote? Were there a bunch of tagged on policies much like all legislation? Further why all the name calling? The politicains are all "crooked"; one way or another. Especially after their two terms; which is, statistically, when the electorate stops watching.

I'm not the one saying all politicians are crooked. If you think they all are, you have to be specific. Name the bills. Me, I don't care.
As far as namecalling goes, I'm doing my level best not to namecall other posters. As far as politicians, that's kind of fair game.

He might tease the goose steppers with that, but Congress has to pull that plug.
Of course, government can ELIMINATE the goose stepping IRS, or maybe SLASH ITS FUNDING so it has no power to send its goons out on terror missions.
Getting rid of the income tax means a constitutional convention. Overturning the 16th Amendment.
It would be a great thing for America. But trying to picture Democrats voting for that is like trying to picture Hitler celebrating Yom Kippur.
