If discontinued how will the government pay its bills? What happens to k-12 babysitting (oops i mean schools). Also if staffing is reduced everything will simply take longer. Or with more computers\ automation (killing jobs)

@jehova tariffs my man. We need to go back the system that made us
jehova · 31-35, M
@Kenworth4954 tarriffs will make domestic products more attractive, but in many cases there simply arent domestically produced equivalents.
Thus tarriffs are a false jesus in many instances. Is america suddenly going to start low cost clothing "sweatshops" or large scale call centers? If America does the price of alot of goods will drastically increase. I hope we all are ready for America to become New Europe (even more so.)

I got some good news. Federal government accounts for only 7 percent of all education funding. Most of the money for school is raised at the county level, by property taxes.

@Reason10 ok so why is k-12 a federal requirement? Also if the military funding were reduced maybe the fed could help the states pay for the k12 education required by federal law?
jehova · 31-35, M
@Reason10 the u.s. department of education had a $268.35 billion federal budget in 2023. You r saying it is only federally funded 7% but is a federal requirement? Something doesnt add up.

@jehova @jehova I'll take the questions one at a time.

ok so why is k-12 a federal requirement?

I've looked at several different sources and haven't found anything where the federal government is able to override the 10th Amendment. But here's the US Code, title 48.

Why cut the military? They fund our freedom and safety.

How about cutting WELFARE? It's a bigger chunk of the budget. (around 70 percent). Make a bunch of fat ass lazy bums get a job, and use that funding to help out the states.

States don't really want that. With increased funding comes increased control. And when you see Democrats defending USAID, which sends BILLIONS of tax dollars to DEI programs on the other side of the world, you realize the problem with allowing Washington anywhere near a local public school.

Most of the funding is at the local level. Also most of the control is at the local level.

Oh, by the way; with parents in poor performing school districts not giving a rat's ass about their children's education (and I even see this in the superior Florida schools), funding is only one of many issues.

@Reason10 i sppreciate your thorough well documented response. Im in the midst of some family things, sorry it will take some time to respond completely to your reply, but we are much in agreement.
the military is not about OUR feedom. as for safety, our military intervening the world over is the reason everyone wants to attack\overthrough America. We police the world. Not with a police force which WOULD be law\order. Instead with a Military thats been overfunded since ww2 and moreso being used as a defacto world police starting in the vietnam and cold wars(s)\era.
Regardless ill be back and forth to address your response.

@Reason10 when using 2023 fiscal year the United States Federal Government spent $6.2 Trillion revenue decreased by 15.5% compared to 2022. 21 to 25%% of the federal budget goes to provide monthly retirement payments to retired Americans (specifically social security) an average of $1922 each to about 52 million 65 year old and older Americans totalling 1.5 trillion monthly, health at about 28% third largest military expenditure at 13.3% or about $843 billion monthly. Fourth largest prisons? About 190 billion a year.
Fourth largest?
