I'm not getting in this game, but I have to push back. Joe Biden is absolutely the worst that ever came along. I hate to say it but Obama is second to him.

@Gibbon And what per se, do you mean that Biden was destroying the country?

He proves that 'reality TV' is no such thing and too many people believe what they see on TV.

Words can not do justice to the damage he and his followers have done to our world!

Well, you list your age as 80-89, so if you are, say 85, you would have been born around 1941, and you would have been about 12 when Stalin died in 1953. Since you were in such advanced special classes, it doesn't seem to be a great stretch to imagine that you read the complete, unadulterated versions of 1984 and Animal Farm within a few years after Stalin's death. I recall that I gave book reports on both those books in 11th grade English class, and I got the books out of the public library.
As for Joseph McCarthy "almost destroying" the country, that notion is absurd. He lasted a few years, was censured by the Senate, and died in disgrace at age 48, probably of alcoholism. Eisenhower is said to have joked, "Now we have McCarthywasm."
And as for MAGA also "destroying the country," you seem to have a bad case of Chicken-Little-ism.
I expect the House (at least) to swing back to the Democrats in November, unless they manage to shoot themselves in the foot again yet again.
@ElwoodBlues
Maybe his stated policies, but you can be rest assured that Mamdani will secure his family fortune in foreign banks, and like the pigs in Animal Farm, be a comfortable member of the Democratic Socialist Nomenklatura.

"Frankly, it sounds to me like Orwell would have been a fan of Mamdani's stated policies."

@Thinkerbell You need to read some of the history of the down stream effects of McCarthyism, the black list for example. My dad had many friends who lost their jobs and it took years to come back. I had a good friend i high school whose father, an attorney got caught up in the red scare and never worked in law again. We lost many very talented and creative minds for years.
As to what version of Animal Farm we read, i really do not remember, perhaps it was the full adult version, so what! The point is still the same.
As for MAGA and the downstream effects, we have hardly even begun to feel the effects. For one, it will take decades to rebuild the public health system they destroyed. Will the respect for public health even be reclaimed in the next decade? How about the effect on higher education. The loss of grantd to higher education, the loss of the brightest people from other countries do to the attack on immigration can not easily be reversed.
The price of gas will probably never drop back to what it was. The effects of climate change that were beginning to become stabilized if not reversed were erased with the abandonment of the move to electric vehicles and non-fossil fuel energy sources. China has become the dominant country in those areas, can we ever become a leader again.
As to Mandami, give the guy a chance. At least he has ideas to try to improve the lives of the people he serves. Slamming him the way you have is really uncalled for. The billionaires in MAGA have been raping the country and workers for years.

The type of feeling and language that I'm tempted to use here in this case wouldn't be socially acceptable in any circumstances 😬 but it's hard to convince me there is anyone who is more stupid
