So, what's Trump's plan in Iran? It's not regime change, it's not stopping them building a nuclear weapon...What is it?

The weekend was all about war and Trump insisting Iran had not yet “paid a big enough price”.

Tuesday was Project Freedom, styled as a grand “humanitarian gesture” to allow trapped ships and their crews to escape the Gulf, but which was also aimed at weakening Iran’s chokehold on the strait of Hormuz.

By the early hours of Wednesday we were back to peace. Trump said that “Great Progress has been made toward a Complete and Final Agreement” so Project Freedom would be paused to give negotiations a chance.

All three approaches on three consecutive days do at least have something in common. They are all attempts to wrestle with the same set of hard facts: the regime in Iran is NOT going to collapse or surrender the right to enrich uranium no matter how many bombs are dropped on it. Tehran has shown its capacity to close the strait of Hormuz, and a total blockade hurts the US economy at the same time it is clearly crippling Iran.

Together, these hard facts make up the sides of a steel box in which the Trump administration, completely through its own actions, finds itself trapped. The repeated policy changes in recent days represent him flailing around inside this trap, pinging off the walls and looking for an exit other than humiliation or a forever war.

It's a weapon of mass distraction.

@Waveney Thanks for BC, sad that it's on a post about an illegal war, but any war is sad.

@Prison1203

It’s controlling the flow of oil to China and other nations that are not allies to America,

Nice try. However China seems to be relatively unfazed while every family in America feels the pain.

However when the full force does hit China's manufacturing and transportation we'll feel that pain also. The cost will be reflected in everything we buy from them.

Raising the price of gasoline ?
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@BiasForAction Not exactly a vote-winner, but perhaps deeper than that, a vague attempt to make American-owned and physically America-based, oil companies more competitive internationally, as alternative exporters?
ArishMell · 70-79, M
I doubt he knows. He's gone into something beyond his comprehension and control.

An American analyst interviewed on the radio this morning, remarked that President Trupm operates more by impulse than plan, and that removing Iran's ability to make one type of "weapon of mass destruction" has given them another...

Stealing oil. 🪔
tRump's current plan in Iran is anything that helps him save face now that his attack on Iran has been revealed to be a disastrous no-win blunder.

anythingoes477 · 31-35, M
The only thing that seems to be profitable about this "war on a whim" is that Big Oil is claiming they are making $30 million.....MORE .PER DAY.......in the U.S. by using the war as an excuse to gouge us on gas prices and no one is complaining because the public thinks the raise in gas and diesel prices is due to the war.............not gouging.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@anythingoes477 Shell is the latest to announce big profit increases thanks to the war increasing the mineral's wholesale price - it has made no bones about that.
Edishere · 26-30, M
He has no big picture perspective. The people who pull his strings do. In this case, I believe it is the oil companies. They want to control the production and flow of petroleum.
Just leave and declare victory then claim he ended yet another war

I don't think he has any plan or goal. I think he has completely lost control of the situation and has no idea what to do.
It's to divert our attention from... er,... I forgot Trump's BFF's name already.
