I am neither Republican or Democrat. I do not think the main characters are in any way deeply engaged in what they are theoretically supposed to be doing - representing their constituents. I think they fake being enemies while smoothing the way for what is happening now.

It is so bizarre that Trump, who never tells the truth if there’s an option, is actually doing what he promised. He thinks the USA is a corporation underwater that he can buy, dismantle, and sell to the highest bidder.

And it is predictable that this administration is being permitted to be so awful, so demoralizing, so appalling, that voters will cling to any life preserver to get out of this. That’s why we mostly get offered the entirely ridiculous options for President.

Meanwhile, everybody in our legislative bodies are enriching themselves while the people are, at an increasing pace, drowning.

I’m almost 75. It won’t matter much to me. It breaks my heart, still.

It is said we get the government we deserve, and it’s true. The current setup is the oldest generations who find it difficult to change and the youngest generations who find it difficult to give a damn. The old want to hang on to what they’ve got. The young want to get as much as they can.

In other words, it is the most fertile ground to plant and grow the poisonous political crops. Even if we start right now, it’ll take a while to right the ship.

The 5 founding principles of the Republican Party:
1. Constitutional governance
2. States Rights
3. Small government, individual rights with government out if your life
4. Non intervention foreign policy
5. Fiscal conservatism

I'm on board for all of that.
Ken4family · 18-21, M
@beckyromero you apply way to much importance to yourself by thinking anyone would read that.

[@ Ken4family]

You apply way too much importance to yourself by thinking I would care what you think.
Ken4family · 18-21, M
@beckyromero see, there it is again... you think people give a damn what you have to say...lmfao...
beckyromero · 36-40, F
What I mean by a progressive Republican—or, you could even call it a reform Republican—is someone modeled after figures like Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, or even FDR. Although FDR was a Democrat, he drew on many classical Republican principles.

FDR "a progressive Republican"? 🤣🤣🤣

This sums up what Republicans of the day back then thought of FDR.

AmericanAvenger · 56-60, M
Everything you referenced is from the past - most people in the world were not even alive when those politicians were in power. We are so far from most of those issues that it does even make sense - what intelligent person is still worried about who was on what side of slavery? We all need to get over it and deal with our reality as it stands today and will be tomorrow.
1930sfan · 26-30, M
@AmericanAvenger human trafficking is the modern slavery and is the new coalition
AmericanAvenger · 56-60, M
@1930sfan And the number of Americans that are concerned or impacted by it is probably negligible in comparison to those issues that matter the most to the most. With the Trump Administration's management of the border, it means even less now.
An interesting idea.

The GOP is the only Republican party I am aware of anywhere that somehow started as a left wing party and ended up far right.
BohoBabe · M
The modern Republican Party is nothing like the politics of those people. I know moderate Conservatives, but they despise the MAGA Republicans.
1930sfan · 26-30, M
@BohoBabe I think I can agree with you but I think there's always room to maybe change the Republican Party keep in mind I'm not talking about conservatives here I'm talking about Republicans in a classical sense
BohoBabe · M
@1930sfan Yeah, people who believe in Representative Democracy. I'm a Republican in that sense.
But as for the RNC, I don't think it's going to change anytime soon.
TexChik · F
I just voted for a guy who embodies those traits!

MAGA
Ynotisay · M
There are no progressive Republicans. If you vote Republican you're voting against the Constitution. You're voting against stopping human trafficking and you're voting for the modern day version of slavery. You can try and deflect by going back 100 years but it means nothing in reality.
@1930sfan I have a question about today’s GOP that no one ever seems to be able to answer:

If they still see themselves as the "Party of Lincoln", why are they the ones trying to censor the history about the institution that Lincoln famously ended ?

Moreover, why are they the ones now most often flying the flag of the people who assassinated him ?
(not a Democrat)
1930sfan · 26-30, M
@bijouxbroussard that's conservatives not republicans
@1930sfan They support the Republican Party, who chose Donald Trump as their candidate. The two are linked now.

I‘m an avid supporter of a neoconservative & neoliberal Republican Party which would make me a Reagan-Bush (or McCain-Romney) Republican.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
I don't like labels or having to take an oath to a label. That's the issue the maga-nuts have right now.
It might serve you well to check out Libertarianism.

Or perhaps even the Constitutionalists.

If I was an American I would be that... long live the bull moose!

usa until recently, both parties were different side sof same coin, both conseravtive, no socialsim, now dmeocrats are silent and republicans luantics
Hmmm, more of a Ronald Regan, Bush, John McCain type....
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
@VeronicaJane McCain was a disappointment
@nudistsueaz how so, because he was willing to reach across the aisle for consensus? His was an era before this mad polarization, when congress could work together.....
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
@VeronicaJane As native of Arizona, my family is very aware of his achievements. He would always campaign on the right, then once elected he would move to the left. This happened year after year and election after election. He was the last and deciding vote on the Unaffordable Health care act. His goal was to become as rich as his wife.
wildbill83 · 41-45, M
that's pretty much the definition of a classic republican
Nobody is. Contradictory ethical precepts mean you lied.
@1930sfan not you, anyone. If you're progressive, you're not a Republican. They're two opposing ideas.
1930sfan · 26-30, M
@RoundandroundwegoAbraham Lincoln help freed the slaves and Teddy Roosevelt push for more Healthcare
@1930sfan and bipartisanly there's no coherent politics and we're going to kill the planet thusly.
