is anyone else a progressive Republican?

What I mean by a progressive Republican—or, you could even call it a reform Republican—is someone modeled after figures like Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, or even FDR. Although FDR was a Democrat, he drew on many classical Republican principles. Essentially, this type of Republican is strongly opposed to slavery—or, in a modern context, human trafficking—firmly against corruption in general, and also supports traditional Republican issues such as gun rights and the Constitution.

I am neither Republican or Democrat. I do not think the main characters are in any way deeply engaged in what they are theoretically supposed to be doing - representing their constituents. I think they fake being enemies while smoothing the way for what is happening now.

It is so bizarre that Trump, who never tells the truth if there’s an option, is actually doing what he promised. He thinks the USA is a corporation underwater that he can buy, dismantle, and sell to the highest bidder.

And it is predictable that this administration is being permitted to be so awful, so demoralizing, so appalling, that voters will cling to any life preserver to get out of this. That’s why we mostly get offered the entirely ridiculous options for President.

Meanwhile, everybody in our legislative bodies are enriching themselves while the people are, at an increasing pace, drowning.

I’m almost 75. It won’t matter much to me. It breaks my heart, still.

It is said we get the government we deserve, and it’s true. The current setup is the oldest generations who find it difficult to change and the youngest generations who find it difficult to give a damn. The old want to hang on to what they’ve got. The young want to get as much as they can.

In other words, it is the most fertile ground to plant and grow the poisonous political crops. Even if we start right now, it’ll take a while to right the ship.
