California is considering a law to ban any ICE employee who worked in the Trump Adiministration

Any person who worked for ICE or Border Patrol agent during Trumps 2nd administration will be banned from EVER working for any law enforcement agency in California for life.
Will other States step up and pass similar laws?
What are your Thoughts?

Honestly, I like the idea of such a ban. People often speak of "bad apples" in the police force being the reason for the ones who commit brutal acts against civilians.

Hiring people whose previous job has been targeting and judging people as "illegal” based upon their appearance and skin color is problematic.
And it’s the very last thing we need added to some already volatile confrontations. 🙁

@bijouxbroussard People who use the "bad apples" expression forget the rest of it.

"One bad apple spoils the whole barrel."

I feel like the supreme court might shoot that down. Upping professionalism and engagement standards across the state's law enforcement might be a suitable workaround.

@ViciDraco MIGHT? Lol
ViciDraco · 41-45, M
@AthrillatheHunt Yes, might. Many of the ICE agents were not well trained and requiring additional training to ensure standards are met would set a soft barrier. This means if ICE is ever scaled down due to a change political regime or even a 'mission accomplished' declaration that going into state law enforcement is less of an easy entry. Though those who are dedicated are not outright barred. So some will get through that barrier. So, might. However, being applied broadly to state law enforcement also raises the quality of officers no matter what the background is.

ICE and state/local law enforcement already have pretty terrible records for de-escalation. Our military requires better trigger discipline from soldiers deployed to actual war zones.

Ultimately, we need to return to the days of calling these people "public servants" and stop calling them "the authorities".

@ViciDraco it’s illegal af and every lawyer / politico knows it.

I think they should be investigated before they're given a job dealing with the public, and allow the public to sue them personally for damages if guilty of human rights violations.
I'm sure they are broken hearted. LOL

Thats how you do it. Place actual consequences on the operators for being willing to do that job. Now. how about the equivalent of a $ex offenders registry. To notify law enforcement (the real ones) that you have "that kind of person" living in your area,..😷

It's common sense, ice hasn't done background checks and a journalist found out that they hired her after 6 minutes in an interview. With them being in law enforcement would be a hazard
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
Sounds like saber rattling . It’s illegal and every lawyer / politico knows it.
Imagine Alabama saying any IRS agent under JoeB automatically has their CPA license revoked in Alabama ?
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@AthrillatheHunt No. But they could be ruled unfit by virtue of poor character or an unfit person due to previous associations..Just as gang members can be rejected from law enforcement at the discretion of the dept. Or a security clearance rejected..😷
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@whowasthatmaskedman remember how California legalized weed and became a sanctuary state. ? Then Alabama banned abortion and has open carry ? The dems never see the other side of the coin .

@AthrillatheHunt I'm sure you think you could say the same thing about California, but the fact is, California isn't murdering citizens. Your side is.

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout You sure do have a lot of opinions about US government agents murdering citizens for an Australian.
ItsMeMorgue · 46-50, F
Oregon and Washington definitely will. Pretty much all the blue states will probably step up.

Great idea actually.

All federal funds should be stopped going to California and any other sanctuary city or state. Besides who the hell would want to live or work in californication? California has no legitimate law enforcement anyway.
