My instant take (which might change) is that this is going to happen.
The US already has a military presence there so in terms of crude power, there is not a lot Greenland or Denmark can do. Denmark is a country of five million people. The EU will write strongly worded letters, but they are not going to war with the USA over this.
I said this on another post, but the EU and Britain need to get over the idea that America is still an ally or gives a shit about them in any sense. The geo[; political handbrake turn is real. The ex-leader of your team has decided that there is no team and that he is going to bully you for the pettyest of reasons and does not give a fuck about things like rules or your opinions. This is the new normal.
The European nations need to be stronger and have a united front. Tarif America, work with China or whatever you need to do to piss them off. It's the only way of shutting it off. Pretending that its a bad dream is not going to work. Bullies only care about strength and consequences to themselves.
