@wildbill83 My dad served in the Royal Navy for 21 years. He always described himself as "ex" and he was not dishonourably discharged (or dead at the time he said it).

The human species is too diverse and suseptible to greed when given too much power. The idea of "freedom" is hard to maintain for all when we have to have a hierarchical structure to function. Weather its feudalism, monarchy, democarcy, communism etc. Some will accept it, some wont. Yet someome has to be in power to make decisions for the whole weather we agree with them fully or not. But id rather have a logical, educated mind leading in the position they know best rather than some slick talker who convinced us to vote for them based on how well they can slander the opposition and swindle us with promises.

@BohoBabe It works periodically in Europe when populist politicians have trashed their economies and we need a period of discipline and sobriety to recover. You don't hand over the reins to Musk and co because they have no experience of government. The people who take over tend to be economists, academics, central bankers . . who know a fair bit about economics and a rules based sysyem.

@SunshineGirl Unfortunately, the Technocracy movement of Silicon Valley isn't being led by academics and economists. It's being led by billionaires who want America to be like Russia, where the country is an Oligarchy controlled by a handful of extremely rich people. That's why this movement is firmly on the side of MAGA. They're using Donald Trump, a very useful idiot, to gain power.

A lot of more traditional moderate Conservatives have been asking why Trump is doing these tariffs when every economist knows it's going to crash the economy. Well, that's the point. It's not about building the economy, it's about doing whatever it takes to consolidate wealth among the 1% of the 1%.
