Over the weekend, the HTS leader and de facto "leader" said that while the goal is to have a real election, it may take up to 4 years to prepare the country for it. The first and most complicated milestone, is the be-Baathifization of Syria's government institutions and internal security forces.
Ahmed al-Sharaa's first test is whether he can manage to get Jihadi Chechens kicked out the country. The latter may be under the impression that they're part of the "winning" party, but Syrians, including all the parties that opposed Assad, want none of it.
Kurdish forces, over the weekend, killed nearly 20 members of the Nousra front, and Christians are demanding the immediate deportations of Chechens and other Jihadists.

If anyone believes these people will be liberal democrats and hold elections I have a bridge and some prime NFTs to sell you.

More like a decaffeinated version of the Taliban .
PicturesOfABetterTomorrow · 41-45, M
@AthrillatheHunt More like Al Qaeda with a new name. That is quite literally who they are.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Al Qaeda lite, now with 15% less extremism ! (Woman still can’t vote or drive or be educated though ).
PicturesOfABetterTomorrow · 41-45, M
@AthrillatheHunt Claiming they are the light variety is just wishful thinking. More like 15% more extreme. The leader was a leader of both Al Qaeda and ISIS.
Nope, I guess people don't trust those with links to Jihadi groups.

@BritishFailedAesthetic I worry about the Armenian and Assyrian Christians. Not to mention the Kurds.
@basilfawlty89 Same here, they have been on my mind quite a bit recently.

The "rebels" are extremists. Is the $10 million bounty still on the head of the so called leader of the rebels or has the american government quietly removed this?
This narrative really does expose the utter hypocrisy of the narrative spinners.

They're not moderates, but then again what does Israel and the United States want? Yet another stepping stone towards the overthrow of the Iranian regime, or a stable and civil government in Damascus?

They havent commited act og terrorism in their fight against tyrant Bashir
Assad quite unusual for jihadists.

100% incorrect. They operated their own torture dungeons. Don't let the "bloodless" Dec 9th march fool you. They still have a long way to go to prove they can rule ALL Syrians.

They aren't moderates. Moderates do not overthrow their leaders and force them to leave the country.

They're a military coup.
Not rebels.
Americans will do as they prefer in their war.

Assad was good for Hizbollah.

@Spotpot
Assad created a channel allowing Hizballah to smuggle missiles, arms and ammunition to Hizballah, allowing the latter to become the only party in Lebanon to have weapons, and use them them as they please. This gave Hizballah the power over all aspects of life in Lebanon, as well as the power to wage war against Israel, destroying Lebanon a couple of times, wrecking its economy, port, controlling the airport, etc.
In return, Hizballah provided an army that fought in Syria's civil war, and killed hundreds of thousands of Syrians.
