Yes, there IS white privilege

In some areas, of course there is white (aka Caucasian) privilege. Let me count the ways:

1. In murder rates, whites clearly come out on top. They have the privilege of being fewer victims
White on white murder rates are 16%. Black on Black murder rates are 97%.
https://thedispatch.com/article/what-are-the-real-stats-on-black/

2. 72 percent of all black children live in single family homes.
https://newsone.com/1195075/children-single-parents-u-s-american/#:~:text=In%20the%20African%20American%20community%2C%2072%20percent%20of,%2824.3%20percent%29%2C%20followed%20by%20New%20Zealand%20%2823.7%20percent%29.
Only 19 percent whites live in single family homes.

3. Poverty rates show a white and an ASIAN privilege, in that white only families in poverty make up 8.6 percent of the country, same numbers for Asian families. The families with the highest poverty rates are American Indian and Alaskan native at 25% and blacks at 17 percent
https://www.statista.com/statistics/200476/us-poverty-rate-by-ethnic-group/

To break it down, blacks have been the victims of the Democrat welfare state, which has broken up their families and put them in ghettos. As a result, their scholastic achievement is inferior to whites and Asians; their family unit is mostly single parent; their safety in their own homes and neighborhoods is compromised since blacks commit most violent crimes. And because of the single parent thing, blacks live in poverty at the highest numbers.

I don't blame blacks as a race for this. It would be bigoted and racist to suggest that. Had the Democrats targeted whites for the affirmative action, welfare, etc, whites would be at the lower end of this study as well.
There is white privilege and you can thank the Democrats for that.
There IS institutionalized RACISM, and you can thank the Democrats for implementing affirmative Action (which is the JIM CROW of the Seventies).

Why are you people so obsessed with race. This sounds like a race baiting post here

@Auggie You are the very embodiment of why people detest democrats. I feel sorry for your children. You are like a back woods preacher. For you everything is about hurting others.
And word salad. Please, are you that bad a judge of writing. I am disgusted, and by the it is your sick ego that thinks I apologized. You should apologize for destroying the intent of the discussion. All of your shallow nit picking make no difference to me.

You can throw out all the statistics you want but somehow I doubt it is the state's fault that a lot of fathers skip out when the woman gets pregnant.
Just my opinion but I imagine that is the real root of a lot of their problems. Regardless of race, when a kid grows up without a father figure, that kid is more likely to grow up a bad guy.

Even if welfare IS more of a financial incentive than getting a job, that has nothing to do with dads skipping out.

@CestManan Humans are like water and electrons. They take the path of least resistance. Congress will never institute a flat tax because part of their power in influencing behavior is by manipulating the tax code. What makes you think incentivizing single motherhood has no impact on single motherhood?

@Reason10 says
I'm just pointing out that whites and Asians have lower poverty rates, ...
EXACTLY.

And it doesn't take an Einstein to consider the possibility that the higher poverty rates - which drive all the other bad stats - could easily be due to racial discrimination.

And we can do more than consider the possibility - there's a large body of scientific literature showing how discrimination directly causes poverty; here's just one heavily cited study; more available upon request.
Experimental audit studies focusing on hiring decisions have consistently found strong evidence of racial discrimination, with estimates of white preference ranging from 50% to 240% (Cross et al. 1989, Turner et al. 1991, Fix & Struyk 1993, Bendick et al. 1994; ,,,

Statistical studies of employment outcomes likewise reveal large racial disparities unaccounted for by observed human capital characteristics. Tomaskovic-Devey et al. (2005) present evidence from a fixed-effects model indicating that black men spend significantly more time searching for work, acquire less work experience, and experience less stable employment than do whites with otherwise equivalent characteristics. Wilson et al. (1995) find that, controlling for age, education, urban location, and occupation, black male high school graduates are 70% more likely to experience involuntary unemployment than whites with similar characteristics ...
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2915460/

Oh yeah, let's not forget discrimination in policing. Lots of people smoke weed, but blacks are nearly 4X as likely to be arrested for it.
According to the ACLU’s original analysis, marijuana arrests now account for over half of all drug arrests in the United States. Of the 8.2 million marijuana arrests between 2001 and 2010, 88% were for simply having marijuana. Nationwide, the arrest data revealed one consistent trend: significant racial bias. Despite roughly equal usage rates, Blacks are 3.73 times more likely than whites to be arrested for marijuana.
"Nationwide, ... Despite roughly equal usage rates, Blacks are 3.73 times more likely than whites to be arrested for marijuana."

Racial discrimination is right. I have yet to see a white person behind the counter at the Post Office.

Any state that Black people reside in has nothing to do with them being in single/ nuclear family households. Not every Black person is on welfare and if they are, many use it as a way to get back on their feet so they won’t be on the streets.

Welfare is not only a thing in Democratic states as it’s also used in Republican states as well. Getting rid of government assistance programs like SNAP, TANF, etc. would negatively effected all families in need using its services regardless of their political stance. Affirmative action was put in place to ensure equal employment opportunities for applicants and employees for both minorities and women who were once discriminated/ denied work.
Reason10 · 61-69, M
@Puppycat23 This thread doesn't suggest getting rid of welfare. It merely suggested, QUITE ACCURATELY, that Democrats aimed welfare at the black population for the sole purpose of buying their votes. In the process, the Democrats DESTROYED the black family unit in America and created EVERY ghetto in the country.
Puppycat23 · F
@Reason10 So what about white people or latinos as some of them rely on welfare as well. Idk why you guys always focus on Black people anytime the topic is about Democrats. How the Black family unit was destroyed is complex and a lot of it isn’t due to welfare.

The Democrats have to keep minorities down! They wouldn't have a "base" otherwise!
@badlands I'm not rich and I gave away ≈3/4 of the pandemic stimulus payment in the big check that came im first.

I'm white, I vote Democratic (now exclusively since the Republican fever), I eat, I want others to eat, and I gave a bit to food charities during a time when it was reported that around 30% of Americans were "food insecure".

I've helped build / repair homes in Appalachia.

I've given money to feed a vet travelling on a bus from one VA hospital to another, and to homeless people in need as I found them in various places.

And I direct monthly donations to food charities and others.

And you might want to look at what some very rich people have done; not only John D. Rockefeller, Jr., but Getty, Carnegie, Nobel, David Packard and his family, his partner Wm. Hewlett, Kellogg, the MacArthurs, etc., etc., etc., including Bill & Melinda Gates and the wonderful gal who just endowed the Albert Einstein School of Medicine. Yale's alumni/donors stepped up years ago now to change the cost of going there; Stanford has a good program, too.

If I *were* rich, I already have people for whom I'd buy houses, pay for education, etc. I would love to give away hundreds of millions of dollars to help others in targeted ways.

What have YOU done?

badlands · 22-25, F
@SomeMichGuy Bill Gates has become richer, and that tells me he only wants more wealth. The "wonderful gal" who donated $1 billion to a medical school in the Bronx did something good, for the doctors who graduate from there and any patients they treat. She must really like the place.
What have YOU done?
I give to children's charities. I have bought homeless people food here and there. My parents died, but my grandfather says "if you start giving to charities you will never stop giving, where will it end?", and so he has never given anything to a charity.

I'll accept the idea of white privilege and systemic racism if you can, simply and clearly, answer one question:exactly how does the West Virginian coal-miner have it made in comparison,to,let's say,Beyonce?🤔
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@Reason10 And you'll notice that nobody answered my original question involving Beyonce..........
@DavidT8899 The question was senseless cherry-picking, as I explained.
@DavidT8899 It can be true that men are generally stronger than women, but one can obviously find some men who are weaker than a given woman.

If the statistics support a properly-worded statement such as

"Men are generally stronger than women"

the finding of a single counter-example is meaningless.

If the claim is the stupidly worded

"Men are stronger than women"

then ANY counter-example shows its falsehood.

[sep]

You are railing against "white privilege", but you are trying to assail this statement

"White privilege exists/is real."

with a single example.

You'd have to show that all white people are doing no better than all black people to prove your point with respect to only one non-white group.

[sep]

However, you chose very poorly.

How many very rich black people like Beyoncé are there? Far more than there used to be, but there are still many more rich white people.

@Reason10 You hit the nail right on the head...Amen to that
To break it down, blacks have been the victims of the Democrat welfare state, which has broken up their families and put them in ghettos.
Nope. The racial wealth gap started long before America had modern welfare programs, which actually lift people out of poverty.
@Reason10
In 1965, when the Great Society began in earnest following the massive electoral landslide reelection of LBJ, the out-of-wedlock birthrate among the black community was 21 percent. By 2017, this figure had risen to a whopping 77 percent.
Out-of-wedlock births are up for all races. They're also up throughout the world. This is because it's become socially acceptable to have kids without being legally married. Nothing to do with welfare making people poor.

This article stupidly assumes every out-of-wedlock birth means a fatherless home, which obvi isn't the case.
Right now there is a LARGER racial gap than before the Democrat Great Society.
@carpediem Let me guess :a major reason for their situation was the destruction of a traditional family in lower -income black households -a situation that the Democrats encouraged through their policies.

@Spoiledbrat Same thing with what we call AFrican Americans. They're not all the same shade of black. Some are light brown. Some speak fluent French. Some have British accents. Some have Italian accents. Same with Asians. They don't all look the same. Russians look completely different from Chinese. Japanese look completely different from Indians and Pakistanis. Vietnamese look a lot different from Filipinos.

Government policies - Democrat or Republican - are well-meaning but foolish. I don't have right or wise counter-measures for dealing with the white/black/minority disparity in America. The hands off approach is best.

Government is expected to deal with citizens in need without distinction. We are all human beings, and those who have difficulty coping must have access to public support.
Reason10 · 61-69, M
@sree251 @sree251 The ONLY legitimate function of government would be to enforce the Civil Rights Act and the 14th Amendment. Welfare and affirmative action not only have failed to make black people's lives better, they have made those lives WORSE.
They assume blacks are inferior and incapable of making it on their own. That's typical DEMOCRAT mentality. Of course, Democrats at one time believed blacks were superior, at least on the open capitalist market, and passed JIM CROW laws to prevent blacks from competing.
In both cases, government policies from Democrats have proven to be a disaster.

So explain to me exactly how making it easier for black folks to get jobs led to them living in poverty in single parent family units? Because it seems to me that would have the opposite effect.
JPWhoo · 36-40, MVIP
@Reason10 Okay, how did welfare have that effect?
Welfare has destroyed the black family unit, which has caused them to live in poverty,
Is the irony of that lost on you? You’re saying that giving people money causes them to live in poverty? Or causes them to not get married? Or causes their children to fail in school? How exactly does that work?
