It bothers the hell out of me. I know each state has their own laws regarding sale of lands to foreign governments, and I know the Chinese have been using go-betweens in those purchases to try to mask the fact that they are the ultimate owners of that land, but state legislatures in blue states need to get a clue, for sure.
Gee, a hostile communist gov't that has purchased and stolen US military secrets over the years, is intent on taking down America, is buying up farm land, and land near military bases...what could possibly go wrong?
What is more outrageous is the Wall Street hedge funds and the ultra rich like Jeff Bezos are buying up whole developments and most houses that go on the market. Americans are being condemned to be renters forever.
Foreign land ownership? Monitor the properties. Soybean farms aren't like covert tracking stations.
@ManKing Just to toss it out there, Germany takes in more migrants than the U.S. and India takes in more illegal immigrants. We have the most legal immigrants from other countries.
But is the US government really letting China buy farmland near a base? Or is it in the process of being reviewed? And did the government sell the land or did the land owner sell it? Right now China, which is like any other foreign investor, owns something like 0.1 percent of U.S. ag land. The plant they're proposing will be run by Americans with American employees. Personally, I'm against foreign land investors. And that includes real estate. But what this issue is about is fearmongering by Republicans. It's ironic considering how Republicans have, for years, pushed overseas manufacturing. This is about creating an enemy to distract in my opinion.
@ManKing Not many.Though keep in mind that as for myself,I obviously use social media-after all,I use this sight!-I dont LIVE in it.And as far as Hollywood goes,it usually affects my opinions in the sense thats its best to think the OPPOSITE of what they do!
@ManKing two different matters. Land is under local, county, state and federal jurisdiction. Acreage doesn’t vote democrat and rarely moves very far do the feds don’t encourage it’s presence. The local, county and state authorities however see property tax revenue so they do pay attention .
If you think that’s stupid. The Australian government allowed the Chinese to buy the Darwin port (perfect place to build a navy base) and other ports around Australia too.
Are we gonna go there without talking about the privatized real estate system also making millions of Americans poor and homeless? You bet! But how was the play, Mrs Lincoln?
@Graylight Well, let me point out that Ive never actually LIVED in cold-war Russia,Mexico during the height of the narco-wars or the poorest parts ofcthe Middle-East;Ive only read about the conditions of such places. Its still more than enough to convince anyone of any intelligence that they are not disireable places to live in.
This is only a thing because we’ve been selling arable land and water rights to China, Saudi Arabia, and other enemies of the United States for some time.
@JimBeam Which proves nothing except you know nothing. Someone says they disagree and you go straight the right wing rhetoric toolbox and accuse them of not being American. It would be hilarious were it not so sad, tired and entirely over used.
Yes, we're that stupid. If we used the land for progress and sustainability and didn't nakedly worship capitalism without limits, it wouldn't be possible. This is a result, not a problem.
