30 degrees celsius at night in northern England.

You know that climate change is real when...

I knew something was screwy when it was going to be cooler here in Sacramento than in London. 馃槼
SW-User
@Burnley123 I can imagine. England is also a lot more humid than where I live, so that combination is even more unpleasant.

@tindrummer It does make you want to stay in an air conditioned room all day during the summer.
tindrummerM
@SW-User absolutely - I'm from Texas but live on the coast sw of you so don't need a/c - paradise
MartinII70-79, M
@SW-User It usually is, certainly, but not this time. London yesterday was extremely hot, but relatively low humidity - more like the Mediterranean.

P.S. The temperature reached 40掳c here for the second time in a matter of weeks. 馃サ
Summer has been crazy here too. The north of the province has a massive wild fire raging right now too.
TheSirfurryanimalWales61-69, M
It is nothing new....
MORE than 40 years ago temperatures in the UK soared to 35.6C making it one of the hottest summers ever recorded.

The spell of hot weather in 1976 lasted from mid-June to the end of August and included 15 consecutive days where a maximum temperature of 32C or more was enjoyed in at least one part of the country.
...
We had standpumps ,wildfires and the trains kept running and schools stayed open!
....
Use a fan..I did last night.
TheSirfurryanimalWales61-69, M
@GeniUs it was..the managed forest on the other side of the mountain I鈥檓 looking at now, caught fire and burned for weeks.
The sky glowed red every evening and smoke was clearly visible every day.
I actually remember a very brief shower in late August before the newly appointed Minister for Drought brought rain.
Coincidence I鈥檓 sure,馃榾
GeniUs56-60, M
Warm back then which was unusual but the noticeable trend is that we are definitely getting warmer, longer summers.

@GeniUs this one is exceptional.
I measure Summers by how much cricket I miss...and this one I鈥檝e missed two days because of rain.
My team has only had one day completely washed out. Most unusual in mid-July.
Although I did get soaked in a torrential downpour in Worcester a couple of weeks ago.
MrBrownstone46-50, M
It鈥檚 hot in summer.
MrBrownstone46-50, M
@softspokenman Look what that got you.
@MrBrownstone It got people like you.
MrBrownstone46-50, M
@softspokenman No. I used math,facts and logic.

Fuck I can't imagine. Like I know what it's like to experience 30c in a cold climate but the temperature yo-yos here and its dry. There must be just no infrastructure to deal with this.
Burnley12341-45, M
@CountScrofula We have no air conditioning. That is the big one
CountScrofula41-45, M
@Burnley123 Yeah. Air conditioning is spotty here but I can easily pick up a window air conditioner for my bedroom to survive the night when it's bad.
smiler201256-60
yes it was terrible sleeping last i am further up from you in cumbria .this is right across continental europe we are paying from mans ignorance to warnings [burnley123]

It鈥檚 35鈥檆 here at 4:18 AM and feels like 40鈥檆 due to high humidity 馃サ
Zaphod4246-50, M
It鈥檚 not quite 5pm in SoCal, and it鈥檚 already down in the 70s F here
BittersweetPotato31-35, F
That explains why it feels like hell here sometimes, since we already have a hot climate.
BittersweetPotato31-35, F
@RodionRomanovitch As for me I learned to walk long distances under the hot sun, but I am probably the odd one here because even people who have lived their entire life here avoid walking when it is hot.. I just LOVE walking while listening to music or an audio book, and I wonder if I will also develop the ability to walk in cold weathers
RodionRomanovitch56-60, M
@BittersweetPotato I'm sure you will.

We all went for a walk in the countryside yeterday. Unfortunately , my daughter hates it. She said to me , in all seriousness ; " What is the point of walking when you don't do anything , you just walk! " lol
BittersweetPotato31-35, F
@RodionRomanovitch That seems delightful..I guess the countryside is where you can enjoy the nature. Well in a way i agree with her.. Walking becomes boring to me if I am not listening to something.. but if I am walking with someone and talking, then it is different, especially in a natural place where I can also appreciate the views.. but then i get it, merely walking and talking may not be very entertaining for a kid!
NorthwestM
Wow. We had a high of 21c today, with a light sprinkle. Last year, about this time of year, we had two days of 40C. First time in our history. Climate change is real.
Burnley12341-45, M
@Northwest I believe your region has a similar climate to the UK

I would be shocked but I'm sweating and can't sleep.
NorthwestM
@Burnley123 Yes, our climate is pretty similar to Northern England, though I think it may rain/snow a bit more here.

That one week last summer was a total shocker for us and the state of Oregon. In Eastern Washington, onion crops were lost as the hear literally cooked the onions in the fields.

This summer it's the opposite, with somewhat normal, 20-24 C for July.

Summer in Australia

Thevy2941-45, M
@Burnley123 Actually I got this pic from the movie 'Riddick.'

I grew up in a small town by the ocean on the Nullarbor Plains not far from the Great Australian Bight. During Summer half the time the wind would come from the North, over the desert. So it actually got hotter during the night then it did during the day. And we had some 45 degree heat summers.
Burnley12341-45, M
@Thevy29 Ah. I see the pic has Riddick.
Burnley12341-45, M
I exaggerate slightly. It's now 26 at 1am, down from 33 at 9pm.

The one time I was in London years ago, the weather reminded me of San Francisco. San Francisco is less like that now, too.
tindrummerM
@bijouxbroussard One time I was in London it was miserably hot. Other visits were more like your experience.
Burnley12341-45, M
@tindrummer @bijouxbroussard

London is such a busy, congested city that it's awful when it's hot.
Ugh. At this rate, I'll be living at the North Pole in a few years.
