On Thursday the Supreme court of the US issued a warning to Congress...

How? Of course by this ruling on New York state law.

I knew this was coming. The only way around both the 2nd amendment and the 14th amendment is to change the 2nd amendment to read in a reasonable way!

This actually was timed perfectly for Congress. A warning that they will overrule anything that was sensible or reasonable that congress should pass.

I hate to say this, yet I have warned exactly this will happen.

If you want reasonable control on guns you must change the second amendment.
If everyone now has a right to carry a weapon for "self defense", why not sling an AR15 over your shoulder and march in front of the Supremes houses? I'm sure sexual predator Thomas and the black out drunk will be outraged and demand protection.

@Darkechoes more familiar with the M16. Yet have had to field strip everyday one. The name doesn't matter. Yet the capabilities do!

We called even M16's Mattel's after all! 🤣
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@Darkechoes I know that but I wanted to see if anyone else knew it. Lots of no-nothings think that the "AR" means "assault rifle."
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@Diotrephes yep! There are obvious know nothings. Easy to look things up. Experience is a different matter.
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
What could anyone expect from a collection of Federalist Society hacks?

Next up: forced birth and restrictions on birth control.

Sorry for deleting your reply. Wanted to reply and accidentally deleted it. I'm uncertain even of your username. It's something similar to above.

there is a process for changing the constitution.

I know this very well and have mentioned some of this in a reply below.

@boudinMan see above reply. So sorry. History list found your username. 😁

The authors of the Constitution had the foresight to anticipate some institution or group of individuals might try to circumvent an amendment to the Constitution. So, they established some safeguards.
Kudos to the Supreme Court!!!

You're actually wrong. Yet like religious fanatics with the bible the gun wackos have their own "interpretation" of the constitution.

That's why the constitution is in need to be rewritten.
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@DeWayfarer Let me guess. You sat next to Pinocchio Obama at Harvard Law School.
🤔
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@ProfessorPlum77 and you are a lawyer yourself!

Yet what do lawyers do best? Interpret law!
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
As I said before, all gun control laws, especially federal ones, are unconstitutional.

Instead of the control freaks passing another 20,000 gun control laws, the proper way to do it is to simply repeal the Second Amendment and to write a new one in clear modern-day American English. A number of State constitutions have amendments on the right to bear arms than even imbeciles can understand. The control freak can copy them and thereby eliminate the problem once and for all.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
Unfortunately changes to the Second Amendment would require ratification by 2/3 of the states, and that is absolutely impossible given the number of red states that support the increasingly loose interpretation by the SCOTUS. Who knows what will happen in the future, but the current political climate makes it impossible.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@windinhishair I'll stress "MIGHT" on this. There's the remote possibility that the voters "MIGHT" boot out the gun fanatics.

It's not all conservatives that are such fanatics.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@DeWayfarer I would love for you to be correct.

We are a backwards country. Fuck ups galore. How else could such pieces of shit like w.bush or lying trump ever been elected president. Nothing will change, will just get worse and worse with climate change in snowball effect..
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@SW-User Thats possibly true.. But the day will come when things get bad enough that they have to get better. I am just not sure you will recognise that version of America, whatever it is.. Because it will be much changed.😷
Pack the fucking courts.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@BetweenKittensandRiots Biden is a moderate. He already said he won't do that.
@DeWayfarer Too moderate.
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@BetweenKittensandRiots So, what will you do when the packed court flips the other way?

It's stupid to rely upon ignorant judges to give you what you want.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Since its a given that there will never be a consensus to amend the constitution, the only alternative will be to abandon it completely and start over. So that will be a way off yet.. But the Republicans have a few ideas..😷
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@whowasthatmaskedman don't know about you, yet I'm not likely to be around that long. Nor do I have any kids it would effect.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@DeWayfarer Maybe not in my time either.. But the only certain thing is change.. The more you resist change, the sooner you are swept away by it.😷
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@whowasthatmaskedman 🤣 You're not the only one that preaches about change! 🤣

Just wish some would change enough to hear "the winds of change"!😞

How do Americans memorize all these amendment numbers and their meaning????? Are they taught at birth? I can’t even remember a phone number
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@SumKindaMunster I remember in grade school going on a field trip to knot's Berry farm. We actually didn't go on any rides, yet one thing we did was to go on the outside of the ride area to see the US Constitution an exact replica of the real one. Later our teacher in class went into details.

It was quite a rememberable field trip.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@DeWayfarer That's really cool. I live in the suburbs outside Philadelphia and I really enjoyed seeing a lot of the historic places where America was born like Independence Hall, the Constitution Center and the Liberty Bell. (The bell itself is rather unassuming, but the stories around it are legendary)
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@SumKindaMunster that was another replica that was there. Knots is on the west coast. So few such historical sites just were not available.
Shall not be infringed.
Anything these plebs who swore to uphold the 2nd amendment do to water it down, is repugnant to the constitution
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout sorry yet that's the wording that needs to be rewritten.

I'm for guns under the right circumstances. And what is being proposed by a few conservatives is far more reasonable.

Absolutes lead to fanaticism! And that's exactly where we are at!
GerOttman · 61-69, M
Ya gotta better chance of the Libertarians taking both houses and the White House next election.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@GerOttman I think it's at least worth trying. As is it's a stale mate and nothing gets done anyway.
GerOttman · 61-69, M
@DeWayfarer I think the other thing is worth trying too. It is what it is and the sooner some folks get comfortable with the concept, sooner all can work on real solutions to actual problems.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@GerOttman I can agree with the foreign policies of libertarians, yet that's about it. I'm a mix of all three.
RedBaron · M
"I hate to say this..."

Well, if you hate to say it, then why say it? And if you're saying it, you obviously don't hate to very much.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@RedBaron I say it that way because I have argued with both sides. And neither want to hear it.
MarineBob · 56-60, M
I'd rather change the congress
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@MarineBob change Congress would have to be the first step anyway as mentioned below.
Mission Impossible!
MarineBob · 56-60, M
any congressman that supports the change the justice department should immediately confiscate all his weapons
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@MarineBob and that would be against the constitution as is. 🤷🏻‍♂️

What works for the goose works for the gander!
Baremine · 70-79, C
Only idiots want to change the second amendment and give up our freedoms to an extremely corrupt government.
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@Baremine How about this?

Restore the practice of dueling. If you have a complaint with someone then have a duel to settle the matter. If a person gets killed then the survivor won't be charged with any crime.

But, to prevent abuses a person could only engage in a duel maybe three times every 90 days (2,160 hours). That will prevent a person from being constantly picked on. Of course if someone survives a dozen duels it might be a good idea not to pick a fight with him.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@Diotrephes Since you apparently want savagery, might as well tie their legs together and give them clubs to beat themselves with.

Oh... can't forget a coliseum with crowds of people to watch. And televise it so that even kids will watch it.

To think of it, that sounds very much like the original republic. Rome! Even kids were encouraged to watch.
