It's about as interesting as watching paint dry given the level of actual discourse going on (i.e. next to none). It's literally just people stating what they already believe and using it as a bludgeon. Politics can be worthwhile and interesting to discuss, but "left vs. right" "sports team" nonsense you see on this site isn't it.
Imsleepy · 31-35
No. Politics are important. Sticking your head in the sand isn’t going to solve anything.

@Imsleepy I wouldn't mind discussing it if people could act their age, lol. Civil political discussions are few and far between.
JohnOinger · 41-45, M
@SubstantialKick Indeed
Grateful4you · M
@Imsleepy I'm glad you said that. The majority of people have no idea how frail and at-risk our system of government is at right now. People like Tucker Carlson WANT our democracy to collapse. Once enslaved, Americans will have no other choice but to obey. Trump supporters will be in shock and agony suddenly realizing they have been abandoned . Terrified without any kind of support from the government, friends or family the USA will be in utter chaos. Every man for himself until the military takes over and decides the fate of various populations.
One thing is certain. Once the military takes over, MAGA will no longer be tolerated, Proud Boys, Patriots, and all other Trump supporters will have to be put down. Trump won't bother hiding his contempt for his own supporters any longer. ( He has already said while watching the Jan6th coup attempt, "They look kinda low class" his supporters who already have advocated for civil war will be silenced by military order and placed in detention camps to prevent threats to military authorities.
All private citizens will be disarmed. Only military police and all other military authorities will have the right to bear arms. The next several years will be a period of complete re-organization and complete "cleansing" of former politicians and policies. The USA will assume a regime similar to that of North Korea all current political practices will be modified and adapted to facilitate military rule.
This is just a rough idea of what could possibly happen in the event of a military takeover, as far fetched as all this sounds I wouldn't dismiss the idea of something similar happening. Hopefully, this is a nothing more than a paranoid rant. I just hope Americans wake-up and realize how at risk and fragile our democracy is. How easily it can slip away if we don't cling hard and fast to the rights and freedoms we presently take for granted.
Trump, DeSantis and their cohorts are totally indifferent to ideals this country was founded on, they have zero regard or respect to a government for the people, by the people. WE, not politicians or military are in charge of the USA. Be pro-active, vote. Speak up, stand up and consider at least some of this of having some small measure of value.

I am a lefty, but I dont mind agreeing with right wing policies that benefit people. Actively blocking a law that benefits people just because you dont agree with it or attacking people based on their beliefs is disgusting.
Sadwithasmile · 22-25, M
@Changeisgonnacome can you please rephrase that, I didn’t catch all of it.
Changeisgonnacome · 61-69, F
@Sadwithasmile it seems like we should have a really big Green Party following and a powerful Green Party in the USA-. Funny how they're secretive, repulsed by my affection-. Jill Stein sure sounds like an educated white lib to me-. And yet she doesn't want more followers like that! Wtf? Heard it last week... It's off putting, and has been for years. But the Dems are worse.
Sadwithasmile · 22-25, M
@Changeisgonnacome I love the Green Party. They are the most European minded party in America, I wish they would become bigger. Their policies are good but it’s sad if they dont want people.
Grateful4you · M
Actually, because of the Jan.6th. committee hearings there has been a rather refreshing effort of both parties to take on a bi-partisan posturing and hopefully, this effort will have at least some lasting effect it HAS to or democracy in the USA is finished.
SubstantialKick · 36-40, M
@Grateful4you Yep, I've noticed that myself.
BlueVeins · 22-25
not really, there's lifetimes of material there, but everyone comes here for different shit & i respect your choice.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Totally. Politics is defined as "The art of the possible" But the pure ideologies of both the Left and the Right are exclusive, and individually unstable. Someone has to pay for what the Left wants. And someone has to provide the market and the workforce for what the Right wants to make and sell. Both sides fail to see they need each other. And only when that mountain has been climbed will there be progress.😷
Carissimi · F
It’s not so much a Left Vs Right anymore because we have a uniparty who are mainly Globalists. You can’t come together with those destroying the fabric of society to bring in a one world order.
Carissimi · F
You have a lot to learn. Have you been living in a cave? Go visit the WEF website. They tell us exactly what they are doing. Go read the book called, “The Great Reset,” by Klaus Schwab. He tells you exactly what his plan is. If you protect the totalitarian Globalists, and demean those who uphold the Constitution, then you are the problem, and need to go live in a communist country because this is the United States of America. @SW-User

Criminal activity can and is and will be addressed and will be without reference to political party. Also I’m tired of everyone being jealous of me because I’m Ambidextrous. Left leaning but still totally Ambidextrous don’t let that upset you please🤣

Having to entertain the litany of daily conspiracy theories, each one more absurd than the prior, I can honestly report that its exhausting.

Sure, its all the same Corporatocracy..I style myself an ecclectican 😀 There is a steady rise toward Authoritarianism, though
Grateful4you · M
@bookerdana And this is exactly what will be the undoing of the USA NOT Donald Trump or Ron DeSantis although together, those two will lube the road to let Authoritarianism slide right in Chris.

what I'm sick of is the closemindedness and unwillingness to talk about an idea - and treating anyone that disagrees with you like Hitler's illegitimate child

@Stereoguy That’s the problem with the Left, they don’t see past today or at most next week. Even if it were true that the Keystone pipeline wouldn’t be operational for 5-years, so what! He thinks we don’t need energy 5-years from now? These Leftists have no foresight. They only see what’s in front of them today. They can’t plan for tomorrow or next year, or 5-years ahead. That’s why they destroy everything. It’s like giving the key to the sweetshop to a child. Devour everything today, and damn the consequences. Leftists are stupid people.
BlueVeins · 22-25
@Stereoguy @Carissimi forgive me for going a bit out of order here.
Biden can't re-open the Keystone Pipeline because it was never closed to begin with. The Keystone Pipeline is still operational and delivers about 550,000 barrels of oil to the US per day. What you're thinking of is the Keystone XL Expansion, which would have connected Alberta to Nebraska and delivered 830,000 barrels a day. But he couldn't reopen that one either, since it was never opened in the first place. It should be noted that this is small (albeit significant) compared to the 19.78 million barrels of oil that the US uses daily as of 2021.
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-30103078

Not actually true, drilling has increased since Biden took office in early 2021, as you can see from this graph:
The US exported oil under Obama, Biden, AND Trump.
https://www.macrotrends.net/2563/us-crude-oil-exports-historical-chart
Likewise, the US was dependent on foreign oil during all three administrations.
Even if you go off of net exports (which is kind of a silly numbers trick but whatever), the US continued to export more oil than it imports in 2021.
https://www.eia.gov/energyexplained/oil-and-petroleum-products/imports-and-exports.php#:~:text=The%20United%20States%20was%20a,row%20since%20at%20least%201949.
Well if we're gonna take 5 years to solve the problem, we might as well go with more permanent solutions anyway. Even if we finish this whole Keystone pipeline, there are still gonna be oil shocks, and there's still gonna be political risk since we're routing it through another country. Resources like the Sun, the wind, the tides, and the river currents don't go through crazy price shocks like oil does, so if we want to actually fix this problem for good, we should pursue those options. Nuclear is also really good to this end btw, since the fuel is such a small percentage of the operating cost.
It's definitely true that the way the suburbs are designed in the US is incompatible with public transportation because everything is way too spread out. But that's kind of circular reasoning imo because American suburbs are designed that way because of the automobile. The US suburbs only started ballooning in the '40s because everything was reliant on roads around that time; it's not as if everyone was biking 60 miles to work and back up until that point. And by the way, the zoning laws which enforced suburbanization massively inflated land costs in the city centers, thus driving up cost of living.
I tend to think we should do this (an international minimum wage & environmental protections would be nice), but it wouldn't solve inflation at all. The pandemic was a global problem and screwed up supply chains everywhere. Besides, US workers demand more money, which means higher cost of goods. There are definitely reasons to be against the offshoring of manufacturing -- at least to filthy sweatshops that blanket the earth in smog -- but this isn't one of them.
I would reopen the Keystone pipeline and renew leases for drilling to the oil companies.

In Bidens first week in office he shutdown the Keystone Pipeline and halted all oil drilling. We went from exporting oil to being dependent on foreign oil.

With the suburbs I don't believe total public transportation is a viable option.

Then I would allow manufacturing back into America.

Very sick of it. I know I'm becoming apathetic and indifferent to it all. I may not expose it all the time, but I am sensitive emotionally in ways, and I don't hate admitting it, will wear it with pride at moments, but the expose of fireworks of people just looking for ideological fights is nonsense and only bears the girth of making their ego wider. So most often I just smile and nod, whichever way now.

most certainly. Just sick of politics in general

It has historical roots and I am sure that the debate has been at least as toxic and negative at times in the past. It is the responsibility of each and everyone of us to engage critically, not to resort to lazy and simplistic explanations of current day problems, and generally to influence the political discourse positively 🙂

What else is there to talk about? Everyone is pissed off at the liberals, bc they ruined EVERYTHING.

ViciDraco · 36-40, M
It is honestly pretty crazy. You can generally take a group of people and have a conversation and they will agree on a lot of the same things. There are a couple key issues where people differ, and sometimes they prioritize things differently, but there tends to be more agreement than disagreement among normal folk.
But convincing is that our neighbors are our enemies and that the other side is out to destroy everything you have ever loved is good for keeping money and votes going to the people who have been pulling the strings all along.

@Grateful4you Conserves used to be perplexed when I posted this photo from one of the BLM protests in SF, especially after they accused BLM of being "anti-white". I told one of them, “guess these folks didn’t get that memo"
Grateful4you · M
@bijouxbroussard Ah nice, and a affirmation I needed to see even though I am secure about my value system, it's really nice to have this visual, the satisfaction of knowing I have my ducks in a row. This is a moment in history far more brittle than the 60's. I don't think the majority of Americans realize exactly how frail our way of governance is right now. We really need the mutual support of each other more than ever hon.
