Has politics become your religion?

While I follow political news, more and more it seems some people on the left and right treat politics as a quasi-religious crusade.

Nope. There's no "higher power" in politics. Nothing to pray to. No peace that surpasseth understanding.

You make a good point. I really do believe that politics have become a religion. People on both sides consistently ignore facts and are willing to do terrible things if it promotes their side. Pretty scary what we are headed for.

That's because religion has been mixed in. Separate church and state

@Longpatrol We have no official religion in the US.

@SW-User As for the UK, when king Henry, angered over being denied annulments from his multiple scandalous marriages, denounced the Catholic Pope, created the 'Church if England' declared himself both pope and king of the UK, and began killing the women he grew tired of I guess his subjects just figured that it was just a game and forgot all about morality and God.

But you're not really correct about America. Many people in America are devout Christians of the several denominational forms of Christianity. Yet this is a private and personal aspect of their lives and completely separated from governmental law. When we or they or I for that matter object to the government making an immoral law it doesn't mean that my religion forces me to.

They or We or I simply know right from wrong and have a conscience.

REMEMBER THIS.

The US government is legally prevented from making any law regarding the establishment of a government religion or exercising the prohibition thereof. [ and...is not prohibited from having a conscience.]

I decided I am not getting involved in politics anymore

no one debates or constructs points, its just shouty aggressive behaviour, people cant be civil

There are plenty of people who subscribe to facts-based politics, but that only works when context is taking into full consideration.

But it seems as if more SW political posts ignore facts, context or both.

I suppose you may have a point here. Just like these factually-devoid political arguments, religion is also devoid of facts and only works on 100% faith.

No. Public schools are designed to be a kind of religion. It teaches you not to question or challenge the government who bestows on you your "free, universal, yet compulsory education.

The colleges, and to a large extent, media, are like a choice of two monasteries that teache how to become a crusaders squire or an inquisitors apprentice.

It really seems childish.

Good observation... They do their best to project upon others extremism.. And many are becoming extreme.. The ones who make out that other guys are extreme..

You did get some strong and articulate responses to your post.

No, it hasn't. I feel sorry for the ones that have made it into their religion. They can't see past extreme left and right.
thepeculiarpanda · 36-40, M
Nope. I've pretty much tapped out of it at this point.
