Athletic guilds are not doing this randomly. They want to generate more money, and sex sells. Until society's attitude about this changes, the rules are not really going to change.
Look at SW. Any thread that includes female nudity, generates hundreds and thousands of comments. Any thread that discusses greek philosophy, for instance, generates one reply, at best.
We can have in depth conversations here. It seems to me that we are doing just that on this topic.
Yes, we can, but this was not really my point:

@Northwest Very well understood and agreed upon. This bothers me too.
What really bothers me though, is when they look like they're teenagers, and some of the comments the adults here make.
@Northwest I can't do anything about the fans of female nudity. But, they are not preventing others from discussing anything. I just wish that they would not bother adding comments like this:
@Pitchblue I'm just gonna say I watched Woman's Triathlon and I was really disappointed when none of the Women had Bewbs.
That's the sort of comment that should be elsewhere, if anywhere at all.
now all we need is male players being allowed to wear speedos. 😌 Forcing athletes to wear certain types of clothing is dumb & counterproductive, they're there to do sports lol
@RabbitWithWine The reason I mentioned it is because a pair of German beach volleyball players refused to play in Qatar for the opposite reason: Qatar would not allow them to wear bikini bottoms.
@RabbitWithWine I think I was being too extreme when I said that people should be allowed to wear like hoop skirts if they want. I guess what I really mean is that it would be more free and fair if we had variants of team attire that are similar in terms of the amount of material. Like moving forwards from this recent ruling, I think that if maybe a religious athlete isn't OK with wearing shorts, they could let her wear tights under them in the team colors or maybe have a pair of pants that's just like the normal uniform, except much longer.
IDK I know this isn't a great comparison, but back on my high school crosscountry team, we were allowed to wear spandex under our uniforms as long as it was team colors, and I don't think it made us look unprofessional (even though we weren't being held to strict standards of professionalism). I really think that letting individual athletes choose the length of their trousers, type of top (i.e. bikini top, T-shirt, cut off, tank top) would be a really reasonable and workable compromise.
well this is good news lol👍👍💕 every woman on earth should hav the freedom 2 dress howevr they want without men saying what they should and what they shouldn't wear...😊😊😊 men should stop trying 2 control women's body and focus more on themselves lol✌✌✌
I agree. And it is a sexist double standard. Women expected to provide visual titillation for viewers, men allowed to wear functional clothing for their sport.
Basically when mens equipment (no pun intended) is too revealing they get fined the same way when womens equipment isn't revealing enough.
Bonus: A few years ago the president of FIFA said this;
Sepp Blatter, the president of the world governing body Fifa, said women should have skimpier kit to increase the popularity of the game. "Let the women play in more feminine clothes like they do in volleyball," he said.
"They could, for example, have tighter shorts. Female players are pretty, if you excuse me for saying so, and they already have some different rules to men - such as playing with a lighter ball. That decision was taken to create a more female aesthetic, so why not do it in fashion?"
@HoraceGreenley I heard somewhere long ago that the nude requirement was because a woman was competing with the men and won a competition before they found out she was a she. After that..... Do you suppose she was trans??????
Yes, there should be an universal dress code. Also, athletes should be allowed to choose what they desire to wear. Gender bias as well as fines for non compliance should be stopped.
{@rabbitwithwine] i think woman wear bikini bottoms are more revealing than shorts . cannot see personally what the big deal is in woman wearing shorts
I concur on all points. It feels like exploitation to me. Yet I see a few who are agreeing but will post or support the constant posting of nude women, specifically breasts and ass. How ironic.
@Zonuss if all female players were comfortable with wearing bikinis & all male players were comfortable with wearing full shorts & shirt, they wouldn't have to be coerced into doing it with the threat of fines & firing.
@Zonuss the fact that IOC fined the Danish team for not wearing bikini bottoms is irrelevant? The conclusion being that the IOC cares only about ratings and not competition. They are not above coercion to get what they want.
I'd very much like to know why that's a requirement. Usually these rules are in place so athletes don't feel pressured to do things that are dangerous or otherwise objectionable by the athletes. But making clothing too long? How is that objectionable or an unfair advantage?
