The Attire Of Female Athletes

I am glad to see female athletes rebelling against sexist standards in athletic attire.

There is nothing particularly political in my use of the word "sexist". Men being allowed to play volleyball in shorts, while women being required to wear bikini bottoms. Then when they wear shorts like the men-- being fined.

Athletes are professionals. They can decide what attire is best for them. Athletic guilds should focus on broad standards that don't afford undue distraction or performance advantages.

Athletic guilds are not doing this randomly. They want to generate more money, and sex sells. Until society's attitude about this changes, the rules are not really going to change.

Look at SW. Any thread that includes female nudity, generates hundreds and thousands of comments. Any thread that discusses greek philosophy, for instance, generates one reply, at best.

@Northwest tbh ppl here on sw r mostly only here 2 chat random stuff😅😅😅 if u wanna hav in-depth discussions on the internet u should go 2 reddit instead lol😀😀😀
@Northwest Sex sells, but women are getting to decide whether they want to be pimped out or not.
lisasweety · 22-25, F
@bijouxbroussard well tbh there r girls who like 2 dress in revealing clothes like me lol😉😉😉, but ure right whether a woman is professional or not has 0 2 do with our outfit choices lol👌👌👌
@lisasweety That’s the point, if a woman wants to be pimped out, that should be on her.
lisasweety · 22-25, F
@bijouxbroussard well wearing revealing clothes doesnt equals 2 being pimped out, why does wearing revealing clothes = pimping ourselves out??😕😕😕
@lisasweety Because “sex sells”. It’s why men’s magazines feature women in revealing clothing—they’re being pimped out to sell magazines.
lisasweety · 22-25, F
@bijouxbroussard so u mean tha me liking 2 wear revealing clothes and show my body = me liking 2 sell out my sex???🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️
@lisasweety Why else is that important to you ?
lisasweety · 22-25, F
@bijouxbroussard bc there r many ppl out there who thinks that a woman can't show her skin without wanting 2 "sell her sexuality" (or as u say "pimping themselves out"). ppl wont think anything if a man wears very little and shows his body (hell men can even go around topless) yet when a woman shows her body it's suddenly "pimping themselves out"?? why can't i dress in miniskirts/crop tops/tube tops etc. and show my cleavage/tummy/legs (hell or even my buttcrack when wearing low rise jeans) etc. without ppl thinking sexually of me???🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

No disagreement here. I was just commenting on why the sports guilds push their rules.

Reddit is too chaotic for my taste. Why can't we have in-depth discussions on SW?
@lisasweety Again, why would you want to ? And if there weren’t still a difference, men’s magazines wouldn’t display women’s bodies to sell their “product”. Very few women’s magazines feature men “scantily” dressed; men in public displaying their parts are generally called “flashers” and often in trouble for “indecent exposure”.
I do think women have the right to wear what they choose, but realistically they shouldn’t be surprised when it attracts attention. (No, that doesn’t give anyone the right to put hands on them.)
Btw, usually when men wear tight, revealing clothing, they’re seeking attention, too.

@bijouxbroussard I don't think she's talking about the side effect: attention. She's saying that she wants to be able to wear whatever she wants, without anyone assuming that she wants to be hit on. She will get the attention, but that's because this is how society is conditioned (which is what I meant by my SW posts comment).

That said, it's not her problem, and she does not need to conform to certain societal "norms". This is also relative. In a place like Saudi Arabia, even showing one's face, is considered purposely tempting people.

@bijouxbroussard
well l like wearing revealing clothes bc of these reasons:

1. i dont like how clothes restict my body
2. it can get super hot in my country 4 most of the year and i h8 the heat
3. i like 2 put myself out there
4. showing my body gives me great confidence
5. i like how doing so empowers myself

as 4 men's magazines and women's magazines i am 100% in support that women's magazines should also feature cute men that r scantily-dressed👍👍🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️

speaking of "flashing" well men do hav the right 2 expose their parts just as long as they hav our consent; on the other hand men can also sue us of "indecent exposure" as long as they want 2🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

as 4 attention of course showing my body attracts attention, ofc it does🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ but it doesnt mean men should 2 approach me sexually or interpret me showing my body in a sexual way. if men can wear just a pair of runner's shorts and a tank top who says i cant wear a cropped tube top along with a pair of denim shorts that shows my butt cheeks??

exactly lol😉😉😉 i should be able 2 show as much skin as i like and of course ill get attention but it dosnt mean the attention should be sexual lol😄😄😄

exactly lol. dictating that women showing body more than what society allows = women wanting sexual attention is exactly the patriarchy lol👍👍👍🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️
@lisasweety

She will get the attention, but that's because this is how society is conditioned

As long as you understand that part. To not is to be incredibly naive. 🤷🏽‍♀️
lisasweety · 22-25, F
@bijouxbroussard well yeah of course there will be attention, it's like how cute guys will get more attention from girls than let's say a neckbeard😉😉😉 but what i dont like is having sexual attention, like guys only cozying up 2 me bc they wanna get into my pants (or skirt?) type of attention✌✌✌
@lisasweety You’re aware that some women are seeking sexual attention, right ? That’s reality, and while there’s nothing wrong with that, how do you imagine they indicate this ? I wouldn’t be a man for any amount of money nowadays. No wonder there are so many misunderstandings.

@Northwest Your last paragraph is dead on. Those who post nude women don't really have a right to, imo. It only serves to magnify this problem.
lisasweety · 22-25, F
@bijouxbroussard well ofc some women will do so 2 seek sexual attention. back b4 i met my current bf it was also true that i was sometimes searching 4 sexual attention from guys as well lol😅😅😅 but if i were rly doing so i would be flirting with guys and it would be rl obvious. so in the end if im not flirting actively flirting with guys then i think its a pretty clear message that i dont want sexual attention😄😄😄 isnt that super obvious??
@lisasweety The fact of the “you too” movement would indicate it’s not obvious to everyone.
lisasweety · 22-25, F
@bijouxbroussard well isnt the "me 2" movement exactly in support of my points?? a major point of "me 2" is that men should stop acting sexual 2 women no matter how pretty we look or how revealing we dress unless they hav our clear consent😉😉😉, and if they hav our consent then we'll be actively flirting with them already

People are free to post whatever they want. I was simply pointing out the huge disparity between posts featuring nude women and just about everything else. I filter most of that stuff out, not on morality basis. I've seen naked women, up close and in person, I don't really need to gawk at something someone copied from some Internet site.

What really bothers me though, is when they look like they're teenagers, and some of the comments the adults here make.
