Donald Trump PERMANENTLY banned from Twitter - Thoughts?

Adaydreambeliever · 56-60, F
It would serve him right.. but it does make him look stupid, illiterate and a raving loony - so I am sure many would miss that!
AuRevoir · 36-40, M
It’s a bit scary.....

I mean it’s also an irony that people complain about totalitarianism 🤔 and don’t realize this is an act of such being displayed by a company to silence freedom of speech.. 🤔

The reason why I consider it frightening is the whole pen is mightier than the sword scenario.. 🤔 if they can silence a ruler of a powerful nation it’s a flex in their part.. that also leads to the ability to silence all voices in a way.. governing independent thought with what u can or can’t say..

🤔 to me it’s not the proper form of repercussion... but, it is also their site.. 🤔 I just question motives and intentions behind it......
@AuRevoir

Nah. If you can't be bothered than neither can i🤷‍♀️
AuRevoir · 36-40, M
@Pikachu 👀 aight.....
Mindful · 56-60, F
@AuRevoir a very logical well thought out response. TY for sharing
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
He's gotta be losing his shit right now, what's his Parler handle?
rottenrobi · 56-60, F
I know it's the right thing to do, with him specifically.
I hate the thought of us starting to censor people though. I do not want to lose our freedom of speech.
rottenrobi · 56-60, F
@bookerdana This is very true. I feel like some folks are waiting for any sign, so they can act out their video game fantasies. This is the very thing that makes me nervous.
I tend to be hopeful though, I don't think we will to back to status quo. Change is eminent.
bookerdana · M
@rottenrobi I agree seeing what played out in DC scared a lot of people..as it should have!
Mindful · 56-60, F
@rottenrobi BINGO!!!!!!!
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Thats Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. I think SW should take a close look at any new account applications here. Not even African and South American dictators have managed this. Trump is probably having a seizure and ordering Nuke strikes on silicone valley as we speak..😷
PhilDeep · 51-55, M
@whowasthatmaskedman He'll probably crowd-fund his own mouthpiece platform using the pennies his worshippers might have been saving for a rainy day.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@PhilDeep Nice idea. But he will divert money from that to try to cover the campaign funding hole he still owes.
SW-User
A president of the united states has better ways to communicate than with twitter.
SW-User
@QuixoticSoul I'm fine with an account that is "The office of the XXX"... I just don't think they should have their person accounts.
@SW-User Honestly, he should never really have been on Twitter. His earliest advisers asked him not to, for security reasons—which he, of course, ignored.
SW-User
@bijouxbroussard I've been claiming for years that Russia has been writing his tweets. Most of his inflammatory early-morning tweets come at noon Russia time.
Ynotisay · M
Too little - too late. Social media has, and still is, contributing to the creation of alternate realities that, clearly, will lead to violence. Their 'freedom of speech' argument has always been bullshit. Money. It's about money. But now that they have blood on their hands they need wake up to how their services are really used. And not just in the United States.

Mindful · 56-60, F
@Ynotisay true. People blame them for violence using their platform to gather etc. when at the heart of the matter violence (or the potential for it) is in everyone. only an individual can choose who or what to be in any given moment.
Pfuzylogic · M
YES..cut his nuts!

@bijouxbroussard
Reportedly they purged QANON accounts, too.
This is good news.
Ynotisay · M
@LvChris It's sort of like the rats jumping ship over the last couple of days in protest despite the fact they'd be out of jobs in two weeks anyway. It means nothing.
OggggO · 36-40, M
@LvChris Violent insurrection and a rapidly closing expiration date on his government powers.
Peapod · 61-69, F
As they say; you cannot yell "fire" in a crowded theater with no consequence. Free speech has always had its limits.
daisymay · 51-55, T
@Carla Some should remind them that if they successfully make Twitter reinstate the account, then every "good Christian" bakery will be forced to destroy the "sanctity of marriage" when they're made to bake cakes for LGBTQ* weddings.

Or, maybe we don't explain it and save that barrel of laughs for later? Sort of like a Strategic Satire Reserve.
Carla · 61-69, F
@daisymay good plan. When trump fades it will be needed.
Carla · 61-69, F
@peskyone 🙂
peskyone · F
It makes sense. Anyone who thinks this might impede their freedom of speech perhaps should reconsider what they are putting on the internet? No one is allowed to scream FIRE in a public area and no one should inciting violence on the internet. PERIOD

Laws will need to be enacted to protect everyone online ... like laws protect us on the streets. People need to come to terms with this.
Peapod · 61-69, F
@peskyone Exactly.
Ynotisay · M
@peskyone Totally agree. And I think that needs to extend to the way AI contributes. We're still in the infancy of the internet and, clearly, we don't as a society have the maturity to handle the current Wild West perspective. Let's hope this bring some real change.
peskyone · F
@Ynotisay You are absolutely correct and cannot be said enough. People are getting too comfortable with less rules and guidelines - they actually think it is a right not a privilege.
deadgerbil · 22-25
That's good news. One less way for him to spew ignorance
HairbrushDiva · 31-35, F
Serves him right.
AmericanaChick · 22-25, F
It's about time!

About damn time.

Took them long enough. Literally anyone else would’ve been banned long ago.
And we’ll see if it stands.
peskyone · F
@bijouxbroussard I was just watching Reid Out and Joy had someone on who was saying that it was the Twitter employees coming together and saying they are not comfortable working there with Trump on their platform.
@peskyone Wow ! That’s pretty amazing, actually.
YoungPoet345 · 26-30, F
@bijouxbroussard not before he took one last selfie 😂
SW-User
Should've been done a long time ago. I guess now that Trump's term is ending, it's time to start taking him seriously? Why were we still acting like he was just a joke all this time? The thing that bothers me most about what happened on Wednesday is that everyone saw it coming and it still couldn't be prevented.
OggggO · 36-40, M
A few years late.
Carla · 61-69, F
He has to be going nuts. Um..nutsier.
I knew this was bound to happen. Just thought they'd wait until he was gone.
I guess for all intents and purposes, he is.
PhilDeep · 51-55, M
@Carla He's supposedly only just started his MAGA journey. Wow. He won't be finished until he's sunk the entire tectonic plates, it seems 🤣
Carla · 61-69, F
@PhilDeep maybe he self combust before that happens.
daisymay · 51-55, T
Jack Dorsey is still a Nazi apologist at the LEAST. Twitter Safety still banned users who reported literal Nazis on the system and minorities who were reporting harassment.

Banning someone who made a mockery of the TOS as a point to brag about with less than two weeks before he is dragged out of my White House in shackles isn't going to earn Jack a cookie.

So, fuck Twitter.
Carla · 61-69, F
@daisymay so...back a million years ago, in trump years, we all were discussing how the germans short term memories were erased by aliens when questioned after WW11. Seems the aliens have returned.
Twitter, facebook...they've milked those accounts for all they were worth. The brave brave senators?🙄give a fucking break.
SW-User
He’s gotta be flipping out!
@SW-User Oh, I think he will be ranting and raving
SW-User
@independentone you sure got people talking about this!!
I'm not against it, but I think it's mostly done for publicity. Plus, there are still a lot of people on Twitter who do violate their guidelines but they're still allowed on there because they have the right politics. I'm sure they're going to come under fire for that eventually. I won't be surprised if they cave in and let Trump back on because of it.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@PerchingDove I dont see them as having a reason to cave. They are looking to the next administration. The Trump pendulum is now swinging back..😷
@whowasthatmaskedman Idk, radical leftists usually got their way during Trump’s presidency and the radical right are already worse.
PhilDeep · 51-55, M
He shouldn't just be banned. I wouldn't mind if his account was completed blasted to oblivion.
SW-User
It was Twitter's right to ban a user if they have gone against their TOS.
StrictSouthernHOH · 46-50, M
Democrats claim to be the party of tolerance, but they have proven themselves intolerant of anyone who disagrees with them. Exhibits A and B: Trump and many other prominent conservatives being banned from social media and the war against Parler, whose only "crime" was/is providing a platform for Conservative pro-American Constitution voices to be heard.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@StrictSouthernHOH I was unaware the Democratic Party owned Twitter, Parler or Amazon.😷
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@StrictSouthernHOH Parler played itself, and is getting the 4chan treatment. This was fairly predictable, because it always happens.

@StrictSouthernHOH It is abundantly obvious that big tech wants conservative voices silenced since big tech and the Democrat party are deeply embedded with their CCP masters. It’s been verified that Facebook was used as one of the communication platforms by those who perpetrated the Capitol protests. But (of course) Apple and Google didn’t pull Facebook from their platforms because Facebook also kisses the almighty liberal butt.
royalblue1193 · 31-35, M
For what? He lost why are they still harassing him
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@royalblue1193 Choosing not to do business with a complete dumpster fire is not harassment. It's good sense.
Quetzalcoatlus · 46-50, M
Someone should tell him about:

similarworlds.com
LadyJ · F
Why is he banned?
Pfuzylogic · M
Twitter specifically raised the possibility that Trump’s recent tweets could mobilize his supporters to commit acts of violence around President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration, an analysis that experts saw as a major expansion in the company’s approach to moderating harmful content online. Its action meant Trump’s tweets disappeared from the site, removing the catalogue of his thoughts except for those preserved by researchers and other documentarians.
OggggO · 36-40, M
@LadyJ Inciting a riot.

@Quetzalcoatlus I honestly doubt that is true.

Twitter sucks. Who gives a fuck?
@stratosranger Trump obviously does
And so he will move on to another platform. Yawn@independentone

@MalteseFalconPunch Yes. That’s exactly how narcissistic and selfish he really is. And how little he cares about the people in this country. And yet some people still haven’t figured that out.
