Why do people have conversations on speaker phone in public?

I’m at the salon and a woman is getting a pedicure and she’s having a full conversation on speaker.

Just yell "He's dead now. What do you want me to do with the body?"

Typically gets rid of that situation 😒
Degbeme · 70-79, M
That is rude. No one else wants to hear that noise.
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@Degbeme she’s very loud. I find most are loud when they’re on speaker
Degbeme · 70-79, M
@Jenny1234 It is disgusting behaviour.
I'm to the point that I don't go out unless I have to, for the shortest periods possible so I minimize my dealing with humanoids and their selfishness and idiosyncrasies, unless it's to go fishing or something alone in the wilderness. Even that is not a total escape.
Just being rude and not caring.
Dex1981 · 41-45, M
Some people just think they're the main character and there's need to worry about bothering all us "extras"
JustEd · 41-45, M
😂. Worked with this older guy that did that all the time. I know way too much about that man
Inconsiderate and self absorbed. It’s a real epidemic.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
I think they become so engrossed in their chattering that they do not realise everyone else can hear them - let alone care about annoying their captive audience.

Daftest I have seen and heard was not in a quiet place but on a platform in a very noisy railway-station.

This was a young woman sitting on a bench about ten yards from me, phone flat on her knees, she facing not it but staring across to a train standing about fifty yards away with its Diesel engines idling fast and very loudly.

She was gabbling away loudly and almost non-stop, I think in Italian or Spanish, and I could hear the woman to whom she was speaking was barely able to get a word in sideways.

I thought, "I hope she's not going to be on my train!"

Or when they're at work especially. Reminds me of this awkward moment I had at my workplace last year. 😂

@Ducky I have a coworker that does it too. I close my office door
HumanEarth · 56-60, F
Maybe they should put the speaker in the telephone. Then maybe it won't be so loud
Mmiker · 46-50, M
I know. I have the same question. Been wondering the same. Geez.
Beebo · M
Because they can. People do all kinds of weird stuff.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
I think they feel the look important or something.
Gumba1000 · M
I blame The Apprentice
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@Gumba1000 is that a TV show? I haven’t watched it
Gumba1000 · M
@Jenny1234 Yes. They always talk to each other on loud speaker on their phones. They have for 20 years or something
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
It's their world; we're just living in it.
Strictmichael75 · 61-69, M
You should join the conversation and see what happens !
Could be amusing
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@Strictmichael75 it’s in another language Urdu or Punjabi perhaps so I don’t understand
Strictmichael75 · 61-69, M
@Jenny1234 Well you can say hi to them and ask if they can speak English !

To let others know that they have a boyfriend
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
That’s so freaking rude. I don’t even like talking in public on my phone.
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@iamonfire696 me neither

@JimboSaturn and we would never have taken offence to everything people said. Literally people are so offended all the time. No one knows how to have fun anymore either.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Jenny1234 Jokes are out of the question.
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@JimboSaturn I know. Can never joke anymore. Nothing.
