If anything happened to your pet, would you think about getting another one to replace it?

Perhaps adopt an elderly dog or cat from shelter to make it's last years full with love?
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
Yes. I have done this after grieving. Each pet brings something new and interesting into my life, I likely will keep dogs in my life until I can't care for them anymore...may go with a smaller dog next time, I am getting a little old to handle Rottweilers, they are strong and stubborn dogs...

My last pet was adorable but suffered health problems and sadly died. I do irregular shift work so feel it's unfair to get another pet right now. I miss having a pet but have made do with the garden robins.

@meggie Yes, you can take care of your local wildlife instead, they need help.
meggie · F
@Jemimapuddleduck they do...they are greedy little things now and all fat and fluffy.

Having buried several 4 legged friends over the years, the answer is a resounding yes... But i never go looking... They seem to find me instead
Convivial · 26-30, F
@Jemimapuddleduck I'm convinced of that ... I've never got a bad one yet... They've all been special... Lazy but special still lol

@SumKindaMunster so true...

When my Dale passed I didn't have another dog or pet for 4-5 years. I missed him so much. And I worked a lot and wouldn't of been there for a new doggie. I adopted my doggie Alien a few years ago now and he's become my best friend. I wish they lived longer.

I didn't think of it as replacing her. But, I missed having a dog. I adopted a shelter dog about six months after my dog died.

When my sweet Oreo cat died at the age of 17 I got a y year old cat. Not elderly but she was a rescue cat
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
I've always adopted from the pound. "Just give which ever mutts been here the longest."
newgirl · 56-60, F
@Thevy29 It has been very rewarding to adopt. I will never buy a dog from a breeder.

Not to replace it per se but I would definitely consider getting another one.

No I would not adopt as most of the dogs were abused, sick or not worth a shit. I would buy one from a reputable breeder as I have all my past pets. ASPCA is a shit show spending donations on dogs and cats that should be immediately be put down and them money spent on people that need food and places to live.

I had to put my dog down almost two years ago. Broke everyone’s heart. He was so loved and really was the heart of the family.

One day when I feel the time is right I will get an older dog or cat or maybe both but I’m not ready yet though.

After my last cat died, (whom I rescued from his elderly demented owner), I adopted an older cat, age 6 at the time, from a vet in western Massachusetts. The vet was having an adoption event after rescuing a LOT of cats and kittens from a kill shelter in New York.
My pets are gone now. I would love the company of another, but I feel it would be unkind that I would leave so much earlier than they. So, I don't get one.

Yes after a period of mourning.

We just got a new kitten last month about a year and a half after we had to say goodbye to our elder cat.
pdockal · 56-60, M
I would never replace pets that have passed
I would rescue another one or two
I've already rescued older

@Jemimapuddleduck you can see the cat in my avatar well that is jess my cat and when that faithful day comes i will be too heartbroken as she is my world.far as replace that would be impossible as we got jess when dad passed in 2014 when i was struggling too cope and when jess came it made all the difference she has a special place in my heart

Did think about getting another cat . After my last cat passed on. But decided against it. To much stress etc
Jemimapuddleduck · 31-35, F
@Wizardry Vet bills are expensive, too.
Wizardry · 46-50, M
@Jemimapuddleduck very true
I just realized it’s been over ten years since I lost my cat. I kept saying I would adopt another one eventually, but I just haven’t. 🙁
Jemimapuddleduck · 31-35, F
@bijouxbroussard Maybe you will think about it now. So many elderly animals would like a loving home.
@Jemimapuddleduck If and when I do, I’m definitely adopting a senior. I adopted my last cat as an adult. Kittens are adorable, but they’re a lot of work.
DDonde · 31-35, M
Honestly, no. It's too hard. My pet's last months were brutal. I had to just not think about getting another pet for a long time.
