My first pet was a parakeet named Herman.

Years later, my mother confessed that she accidentally killed it by placing the cage on a radiator. (At the time, she told me Herman had gotten out of his cage and flown out a window!)

To answer your actual question, while there were always animals around, MY first pet was a black & white springer spaniel I named Cherokee Girl (for the registration papers) and called her Cherry.

Rocky and Roxie. Two really sweet pitbulls who were my step dad's

Rocky got ran over when I was too young to remember him very well (poor Rocky 😔). Roxie lived to be very old.

Muffin. It was a cat that got out of line and got ran over playing chicken with a tractor wheel. I was very young. As a result I thought for a while that muffins were something like pancakes.
