Years later, my mother confessed that she accidentally killed it by placing the cage on a radiator. (At the time, she told me Herman had gotten out of his cage and flown out a window!)
@DearAmbellina2113 I am more inclined to say, "My poor mother!" She held onto "parental guilt" for every little thing that went wrong. I think of her as a great mom, and I wish she hadn't been so hard on herself.
