@PatKirby Yeah, those shortened work weeks and 8 weeks vacation every year catch up.
I have been in construction for over 40 years. I have never had a vacation. I have had time off, but
I have to work overtime to get ahead for that time off, and after vacation I work overtime to catch up.
Many people say that is foolish and there should be work/life balance. That could be true but I have
no regrets. I'm financially set for life now. Rich to some people. Those same people probably say
I don't deserve what I have now, but they do not know what I put in to achieve what I have.
They just think I'm lucky or something. And many think I should give what I have to the people
that did not put in the time and effort that I did.
I will give it away when I die, to deserving people.

Far-left riots swept across France on Saturday, 17 October, as masked militants attacked the Paris headquarters of three conservative media outlets, while rioters elsewhere set historic buildings ablaze and vandalized symbols of the French Republic. The nationwide unrest, which left more than 150 police officers injured and resulted in 1,200 arrests, marked another escalation in weeks of increasingly violent protests involving radical-left and Antifa networks.

Nobel Prize winner Paul Krugman said France is in a "fiscally unsustainable path" and may have become "too big to save."
In a new assessment published in his Substack, Krugman said the "spike in interest rates on French government bonds over the past month has been especially large" as the financial markets began to treat the country as the "economic sick man of the Western world."
France's deficit is expected to clock in at 5.1% of its GDP, same as 2025, while 2027's is set to increase to 5.7%.

@AdmiralPrune Hey! are you poking fun at spastic people?

@DogMan Only one. 😏

According to your benchmarks America has been a third world country for decades. Albeit with a higher GDP
Americas debt to gdp is 126% $40 trillion in debt with a gdp of $31.7 trillion. Too big to work. Ultimately the U.S. needs a state by state breakdown. Because at least half of states are much worse than that.
20 of the states use the federal minimum wage by default. As such:
In America The per capita income reporting is a lie. The average person statistic is outweighed by long established older Americans. The population centers make decent money but the majority of people living in rural or smaller cities don’t make the $95k yearly that’s being reported.
Federal minimum wage is 7.25 an hour which at full time 38.5 hours a week and 50 weeks a year is 38.5*50=1,925 hours *7.25= $13,956.25 a a year., before taxes.
The truth is far worse than America is willing to admit.
Indeed absent a fresh start as the North American Union the truth of Americas situation will never reach the world.
Godspeed.

France is France , they do this every 5 years 😂
Khenpal1 · M
most countries in south Europe overspend , include Russia and turkey , still before bankrupt look how much gold they have to sell.
DogMan · 61-69, M
I think France will have to file bankruptcy, suffer a financial depression, and start over.
Everyone will have to work for the things they want. Farming, & Manufacturing will be
the way to bring it all back.
Work and toil will drive many to suicide, which will thin the herd.
The world needs productive people.

France is Francing … don’t worry about it

@DogMan I've noticed that your solution to many of today's most pressing social and economic problems seems to be to shoot people.
Greenthumb · 56-60, M
@SunshineGirl not people...criminals. why allow a criminals to ruin the lives of hard working people?
jehova · 36-40, M
@Greenthumb Maybe apply that logic to the federal government and legislature

So French national debt is still well under 10% of total American public debt. And in return for that public borrowing French receive a generous welfare state, a first class public transport system, and one of the highest standards of living anywhere in the world.
Why have you posted this under "North America"? As there is only one commentator who still uses the expression "third-world country", I think I can guess 🤦♀
EU GDP per capita in 2025, the latest year available, is $47,089 according to World Bank figures. French GDP per capita for the same period is $49,130. Cyprus is a small island economy that generates most of its income from providing banking services to shady Russians. Not a good comparable to France.

@DogMan Erm, you should tell your AI assistant that the French Revolution was quite "unrestful" as well 😅

This is what multi culturalism, diversity, and left wing politics brings to a country.
DogMan · 61-69, M
Democrats worldwide say "This is no big deal", because Democrats are doing it.
One afternoon of protest on Jan 6th was worse than this 4 week long riot.
If Republicans were doing it, it would become the Holocaust x 10.

This is what happens when you give the left everything they want. They just want more and more until the well runs dry. Then they riot for more.
SunshineGirl · 41-45, F
@Greenthumb The protests have largely comprised students complaining about large class sizes, poorly maintained buildings, and a lack of philosophy teachers. What on earth are you talking about?
DogMan · 61-69, M
@SunshineGirl You should look again. It is now Antifa, and anarchists looting, burning and destroying
monuments.
monuments.
AdmiralPrune · 46-50, M
As much as I abhor the French, this is over dramatising a temporary flux in the French economy.
AdmiralPrune · 46-50, M
@DogMan Yes I have. But if you had been following events in France you’d know this is a regular cycle in France. Remember the yellow vest riots a few years ago?
In Europe their GDP is only behind Germany and the U.K., so the idea that France is a second tier or third world market is ludicrous to the point of laughable.
