He's talking about people who don't feel safe and it has no bearing on actually being safe. To answer the question, no I do not live in the kind of fear that's been mentioned. The kind of fear I live in is that the frightened members of society might have too much to say in our rights as Americans and expect us to live in a manner that's more soothing to them. They're the ones who trade liberty for safety. Those are the ones that worry me.

I have two great neighbors and the other ones I don't know very well ,but I don't fear them.
I've only lived here for 5 years though.
I did have a neighbor I didn't like before but the most they did was play loud music.
They have never ever given me any cause to fear them.
Too much BBC propaganda maybe?
I'm sure there are some bad areas where I would be afraid ,but I am 58 and I never felt in danger of my life from one of my neighbors.

@DogMan I think Americans sometimes do that with the British too to be honest.
But, I do try to be informed before I shoot off my mouth.
I ask questions, I take real life examples, I don't let somebody do the thinking for me.
One thing that has appalled me is their healthcare system and I've gotten flax for speaking about it ,but it's from real life -someone here had to wait over a year to get approved to have gallbladder work done.
She had to wait I don't remember how many hours just for an ambulance to come to her mother-in-law's house.
Another person posted that they weren't even seen by somebody in the emergency room for over 8 hours, so they just went home.
This is almost unheard of in most us hospitals.
For myself I don't want that health system.
And they are paying for it- paying for it in taxes just like we pay for Medicaid/Medicare in taxes.
I argue that who wouldn't pay more money for better health care to make their loved one not die if they can?
I can't imagine living somewhere where you don't even have that option.
And I'm one of those people that probably doesn't have the option ,because of finances and I still think you should be allowed to access the best care you can get, because who wouldn't take advantage of that?

@Justmeraeagain I hear ya Rae. I went on Medicare when I turned 65 and since my wife and I are still working we pay 1,000.00 more per month than we did with private insurance. When I hear people say
Medicare for all, I think they believe it will be free. It does suck though that 50% of all healthcare costs

Doors are never locked usually lock the house up at night sometimes don’t. Go to the store go to the mall whatever don’t lock the car doors. No no care of my neighbors yet. I don’t live in a shitty blue city like Chicago or Philadelphia or New York or Detroit or Los Angeles. But people vote for that shit they get what they vote for and whatever man. But no, most of America doesn’t fear their neighbor or anything like that.

@DogMan The police said they did not know the autistic adult had autism BUT lets be honest Crimimals do not have guide dogs! 🙄🙄🙄 She was hitting herself and the guide dog was trained to calm her in meltdowns and lets be honest if you saw an adult hitting themselves in public and a dog in service uniform trying to calm her it is common sense she has a learning disability! 🙁🙁🙁 A criminal may have a violent dog but not a service guide dog like the blind or some autistic people have and this dog was trained to block her blows when she hits herself in a tantrum so common sense she has a learning disability so those police are less smart than me and I'm not smart at all! 😘😘😘

For instance, Few Europeans are trusted with a garbage disposal.
In America they are in almost every house and apartment. I guess Europeans
would be fearful because many would stick their hands in the disposal.
Europe would have a country full of handless people.
Same goes with ceiling fans. Europeans call them Propellers. Head injuries would be rampant.
Same goes with outlets by the bathroom sinks. Europe would have electrocutions' every day.
The vast majority of American have all these things, and they do not injure themselves.
Same with guns.

Likely because there are so many news reports about crime and so forth, taking attention from the good things and creating stereotypes reinforced by US-made films and TV shows.
A native and resident Briton, I know every country has good and bad, that most people are inherently good; and though I have not visited the USA I don't believe Waveny's sweeping allegation.

Why would a European believe that?
Doesn't matter where I'm from. But any country that is awash with guns clearly means that people fear their neighbours. They feel they need to defend themselves. They need to feel "safe".
It may be a "sweeping generalisation" @ArishMell, but having travelled all over America during the 00s I think it is broadly accurate.
There was an undercurrent of fear then; God knows what it's like now.

It might be that some of them, living in fear themselves, just assume everyone else does. Or it could be some of them believe the media lies about the U.S. and its citizens. Or maybe some are just jealous of our President and our freedom, and prefer to think the worst of us.

@GerOttman My grandfather carried a firearm throughout the second world war and for years after to protect his farm and family from demobbed Soviets carrying weapons they should not have had. He did not do this for fun - guns are expensive and inconvenient to carry and maintain, and they can be used to kill people which always disgusted him - he did it primarily out of fear of the motives or the competency of other people carrying weapons.
