so, king charles has cancer. what are your feelings about it?

how much/ little will you be following this story?
Cancer sucks, my family is cursed with it. I hope his treatments work.
WillaKissing · 56-60
I watched both of my parents die from cancer, and I do not wish that hell on anyone. So, all I can say about it is God bless Charles.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
All I have read are the headlines, and that is probably the level at which I will continue to follow it, at least in the near term.

(I am not British.)

As for my feelings, of course I wish him a full recovery. Cancer has touched my family, and it is not pleasant.
I feel sorry for anyone who has cancer.
If he dies from it and William becomes monarch, he is definitely worthy of it and will be a popular king.

It must be awfully serious for Harry to fly there to be with him. And that shocks me, because in this modern age, there is so much hope for cancer patients. SO many cancers, now, are treatable. King Charles is 75 years old, and that's not an easy age for anyone to survive cancer.

But you can bet your booty King Charles won't receive standard NHS treatment. They will go far beyond what ordinary citizens receive for care, to save his life.
Some amount of detachment, I suppose, since he’s not my country’s leader. But I certainly don’t wish him ill. For the sake of his country, and his loved ones, I hope he recovers and lives a long life. 🤴🏻
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Hes 75 and lived an extremely charmed life.
Not unusual in the slightest to reach that age and not have cancer or Alzheimers or Arthritis to the point of being immobilised etc.

What's interesting is why this is being made public ?

Is he considering abdicating ?
Is Camilla finding the whole Regent thing hard to cope with ?
Are there more details about his brother about to be revealed that make Charles' position as King difficult ?

There's no story unless somebody tries to create one. Either through facts known or lies implied.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@dancingtongue Government and Monarchy are two separate entities.
Monarchy is dependent on funding from the Civil Purse.
Money from the country. Some self-earned via branding and approval crests added to small independent businesses that supply almost exclusively to a select few customers (because of the high price of what they produce and sell. Venison; jewellery; wine; etc.)
The distribution and management of The Civil Purse is made up of a committee of Lords and laymen some selected by government most selected by Lords holding particular peerages passed down through the generations.

Much of the Royal families time is spent with rulers of other nations in an effort to foster trade agreements and developing understanding and advancement in society for those exclusively in this group.

And yes. They often have to shake hands with a lot of international thieves; murderers and pirates in doing so.
dancingtongue · 80-89, M
@Picklebobble2 Thanks for the clarification. Regardless, not being transparent could have a negative impact on those relationships I suspect.
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@Picklebobble2 I know 10 - 15 people in that age range. None of them have cancer or Alzheimers or Arthritis to the point of being immobilised etc.

Why isn't it news by itself? Or are we so idiotic as a society we want anything to be scandal based?
Barny52 · 56-60, M
Im sorry for anyone with this dreadful decease plus im a royalist but was on news way to much yesterday must be more important things to report
@Barny52 But this is important... along with the fact that King Charles was able to start treatment right away - while some of his subjects are facing long waits or paying for private treatment rather than waiting for treatment on the NHS.
Barny52 · 56-60, M
@HootyTheNightOwl totally agree it’s important and pushes people into early treatment but taking up 90% of every news program is a bit much, I don’t need to see how royal family is having to do more of his engagements or what they are wearing or clips of them from years ago isn’t other news also important like NHS waiting lists, doctors strike, no dentist, wars !!

I have sympathy for anyone who has to deal with cancer but no more or less than any other person.
Snuffy1957 · 61-69, M
I was never impressed with him but I wouldn't wish that on anyone.. Cancer SUCKS
SW-User
My mother died of cancer when she was young. It was disgusting to watch.

It’s a personal tragedy. I wish him and his family well.

In terms of the monarchy, I don’t think I could cope with a president Richie Sunak.
@SW-User Fortunately, Sunak can never be monarch...
SW-User
@HootyTheNightOwl His behave was disgraceful yesterday towards the death of that poor trans girl.
OK Starmer changes his mind. Don’t we all. But at least he is human.
@SW-User What do we expect from a government that's telling our doctors and nurses "Work more hours" or my favourite "Get a higher paying job" - yeah... the people on the front line during the Covid Pandemic are likely struggling to make ends meet on working tax credits because they don't get enough take home pay after paying childcare and parking fees/fines to park their car at/near work.

Just imagine having to take the day off work... to go and line up at the FOOD BANK.
RedBaron · M
I read a bit about it, but I really don’t care.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
I wouldn't wish cancer on anyone
I wish him successful treatment and a speedy recovery, the same as I wish for any cancer patient.

I scan a lot of headlines, and I will notice when he comes up. I might read skim a bit of an article to find out what form of cancer and what his prognosis is.
Ontheroad · M
I'm sorry to hear it, but he is just another person, so I'm not going to be following it closely. He, unlike his mother the Queen, is a placeholder, and I think for most people, he isn't that important.
If the baby boomers were ever going to be in power, the USA and UK would have built schools for us, and homes! We are told to die instead. And the feeling? Mutual.

@Roundandroundwego
You sound like a jaded young man. Were you really thinking that the government was suppose to take care of you?
Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
we don't have a king over here so we don't pay as much attention to that sort of thing.
swirlie · 31-35, F
@Subsumedpat
...but you use to have a King before y'all ran away from home! 🤣
Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
@swirlie Well maybe my ancestors did, did not like it and fled to where they ended up creating a safe place.
swirlie · 31-35, F
@Subsumedpat
...a safe place where everyone has a gun, right! And they still don't allow guns in the hands of the general populace where your ancestors came from! Wonder why?
akindheart · 61-69, F
it is sad because he was just crowned King. i will watch but i won't obsess over it. i am concerned over Katherine though.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
I don't favour your tone.
Sad and anxious. 🇬🇧

Queen Elizabeth II was the longest reigning Queen and King Charles will be the shortest reigning King when all is said and done, is how I feel about it.

The truth is, King Charles should be abdicating the Thrown to his son William as soon as possible, regardless of Charle's improvement in health. If Charles suddenly took a turn for the worst, it would throw William into the same fiasco as Charles himself experienced when his mom died unexpectedly.

Additionally, Queen Elizabeth II should have abdicated the Thrown to Charles 30 years prior to her death when Charles was in his mid-40's, instead of hanging around as the world watched her aging son tagging along everywhere she went.

But instead, there is Charles now in his mid to late 70's, still grieving the loss of his mother, looking like absolute sh*t every time he makes a public appearance, while still trying to figure out how he wants to run his Monarchy despite not being very popular in the polls when quite frankly, I think he's lost interest in that whole game.
SandWitch · 26-30, F
@dancingtongue
Charlie wanted the official title and the crown jewels that went with it, but I've never felt that he actually wanted to show up at the office to do the work. Nice gig if you can score it!
@SandWitch I don't think QE II was ever confident that Chuckie would have make a good Monarch, he was the butt of too many jokes and angered way too many because of Camilla.

You have a very valid point there!

Charles needs to abdicate the Royal Throne to Prince William ASAP, as far as I'm concerned.
