Queen Elizabeth II was the longest reigning Queen and King Charles will be the shortest reigning King when all is said and done, is how I feel about it.
The truth is, King Charles should be abdicating the Thrown to his son William as soon as possible, regardless of Charle's improvement in health. If Charles suddenly took a turn for the worst, it would throw William into the same fiasco as Charles himself experienced when his mom died unexpectedly.
Additionally, Queen Elizabeth II should have abdicated the Thrown to Charles 30 years prior to her death when Charles was in his mid-40's, instead of hanging around as the world watched her aging son tagging along everywhere she went.
But instead, there is Charles now in his mid to late 70's, still grieving the loss of his mother, looking like absolute sh*t every time he makes a public appearance, while still trying to figure out how he wants to run his Monarchy despite not being very popular in the polls when quite frankly, I think he's lost interest in that whole game.

Imho, and admittedly from across the pond where the monarchy seems largely an anachronism anyway, I don't think he ever had much interest in it to begin with. Seemed more interested in things like environmental protection and climate change, and only tagged along with his mother to heed her wishes on keeping up appearance and winning her approval of his divorce and marriage to a commoner.

@SandWitch I don't think QE II was ever confident that Chuckie would have make a good Monarch, he was the butt of too many jokes and angered way too many because of Camilla.
