It's not a scandal and I doubt it will lead to the break up of Amazon.

Another local company was convicted of monopolistic practices, in April 2000 and ordered broken down into a minimum of 2 divisions, Apps and Systems. 23 years later, it remains a single entity with a new set of instructions on how to do business.

Amazon will survive everything going forward. Amazon is on the level of American Auto Manufacturers in the sense that Amazon is now "too big to fail."

I don't see Amazon as a monopoly though. They don't just offer their products online, but other online retailers can sell their products on the Amazon platform.

@calicuz I think a part of it is that Amazon requires their sellers to use their infrastructure and was pushing to not allow them to sell on other platforms for less. So that drives up prices for Amazon customers. They also made it harder for consumers to find the retailers with lower prices - particularly those working in the same products as the Amazon brands.

That I agree.

I didn't know all that, and as large as they are I wouldn't put it past them.

It'll be interesting if it goes to court.
Many who sell under the Amazon site name complain of unfair practices within it.
Say what you will….. but, they are damn good at doin what they do.

There's no denying that.

Jeffrey will pay a huge fine and then it will be back to business as usual.
I sure hope they survive, I have a bunch of their stock

They will probably suffer more than that. Amazon just recently roll out the Chips to implant in people's hands and use them as their disadvantage from central bank's digital Currency...

The problem is They Fvcking rush it to push their agenda's while the Supreme Court Blocks it.

All that money waste on chips.....block Rock's Genius under the Gutter at it's Best

What REALLY messes up my mind is that Amazon is allied with the CIA and the CIA is allied with drug cartels. Drug cartels fund all of the CIA black ops by allowing the CIA to make money THROUGH them.

I shop Amazon, too. But you know, if we had to, we could live without them.

I read some expert analysis and the take was their shareholders won't be impacted. Even if if the company breaks up. They've got their hands in so much they're teflon. Amazon will still exist though. It's more about them leveling the playing field. They were screwing merchants.

It'll probably end up being like AT&T. They'll force Amazon to break up into smaller companies, or allow more companies to move in to the same market.

@LordShadowfire Only if it can be proven it's practices restrict trade.
Which of course they obviously do given that all their own warehouses are now automated.

Problem is when you hand over responsibility for things like high street shopping or mass licences for certain fast food restaurants to shall we say 'morally questionable business people', you lose the independents.
And without them you're at the mercy of conglomerates
Let's see, there's eBay, Etsy, Wish, and now Fubu, or whatever it's called, as well as all the major retailers having online shopping that includes shipping, and as for books, Powell's in Portland, the largest independent brick and mortar bookstore west of the Mississippi River, sells them online, with other media types as well, as does Barnes and Noble. So no, Amazon is not a monopoly in the sense of the very definition of one.
