Do you know the differences between a sickle and a scythe?

I have used both tools. The sickle is a hand implement with a short handle that you can use with one hand while you hold the object you want to cut in the other. The scythe has a longer handle with a longer, gently curving blade that you have to use two hands for. I have a scythe my great grandfather made from a tree branch around 1908 for use cutting grass. The stub of another tree branch forms a handle to help hold and guide it.

A sickle is held in one hand, a scythe (for more heavy duty work) is held in both hands

We learned in school humanities class but I can't remember 🤔

Matt go look at my post of me holding two items.

Then come back here. That might jog your memory

I think a sickle is for harvesting crops and a scythe is for cutting grass?
HumanEarth · F
